Hershey kisses

Silver leaves cover the stained brown carpet. Chocolate crumbs marched like tiny ants towards the bed over spires of old clothes and empty soda cans. The crumbs, slowly being ground into the floor gave off a faint sweet odor like a perfume that lingers even after its owner is gone. The light is dim, the curtains drawn. A stale darkness lurks in the corners. Against the back wall a tiny grainy TV set whispers consolingly. Blip. A voice screaming in Spanish. Blip. A commercial. Good. One tiny spot of light on the floor illuminates a pile of torn letters. The light is dusty and confused. Like someone who had wandered into the wrong meeting room and cant remember how to get out.

The lump on the bed shifted sending a small avalanche of silver rappers too the floor.

She sighed and grabbed another chocolate from the 8lb bag from under the bag. The bag was almost empty now. Her friends had brought it by a few days ago. Maybe they will bring more. Probably not.

The chocolate was warm and sweet as though trying to make up for kisses lost and gone. She grabbed a photo from the top of the stack. She stared at the pale smiling white face that glowed next to hers. Another sigh this one more ragged and broken. She ripped the photo in half and tossed it carelessly onto the floor before grabbing another chocolate.

She smiled, twisted and biter.

Another silver leaf fluttered to the floor. The tear stained face contemplated the chocolate cone, the tiny white worm that was emerging shiny and glistening. Bright among the chocolate shadows.

She smiled again the bitter lines easing from her face.

She shrugged and popped the chocolate into her mouth.
