Reignite

A Warlocks tale of survival

Hope can drown, lost in thunderous sound. Fear can claim what little faith remains.

As Vakarrus looked up into the fading Martian sun with his friends broken and bloodied bodies beside him, he realized that there was nothing he could do to protect the civilian ship desperately trying to load up their precious cargo.

But I carry strength from souls now gone. They won't let me give in.

Vakarrus looked down at his friends, his brothers and remembered a different time and a different place. He remembered his mentor with blood leaking from her wounds telling him to run, to live and fight another day. He remembered her lessons, what a Guardian should be, a shield for the weak and a sword against their oppressors.

I will never surrender. We'll free the Earth and sky. Crush my heart into embers. And I will reignite… I will reignite.

The Awoken grimaced as he pushed himself off the sand. He remembers those back home depending on him, and he remembers the Golden Age, the time when everything was beautiful and hopeful. Vakarrus wants that time to come again. He feels the light of the Traveler course through his veins, the power of the sun in the palm of his hand.

Death will take those who fight alone. But united we can break a fate once set in stone.

Now he looks once more to his brothers, but not out of despair but out of hope and remembers an old Guardian proverb: One Guardian is better than ten men, but a Fireteam is worth a hundred. And so reaching for the sun and stars he unleashes a wave of energy towards his comrades. Upon reaching them, flesh and bone reunite, metal and twisted wires once more pump lightning through veins of circuitry. And as his brothers and he once more stand together, Vakarrus shouts aloud his voice cutting through the gunfire and explosions, the desperate screams of the civilians as the enemy stalks ever closer and the triumphant shouts of the Cabal as they inch closer to their prize. Every eye turns to him as his words reach their ears.

Just hold the line until the end. Cause we will give them hell… I will never surrender. We'll free the Earth and sky. Crush my heart into embers and I will reignite… I will reignite.

And so they did, holding out under the fire and the shrapnel giving the scientists' time to escape. Upon seeing the ship vanish through the clouds, Vakarrus, Gap-98, and Garrett took off, calling their Sparrows as they ran, now speeding across the sand with the Cabal at their backs, they sped towards the cliff edge. Together they fly off the edge and let go of their Sparrows, freefalling. Meanwhile the Cabal stopped at the edge screaming in rage as their prey escaped from their grasp. Now falling into the Abyss they call their ships to them. As Vakarrus, Gap-98, and Garrett caught hold of their ships and boarded the Cabal took potshots at them. Then they ascended and now staring down the now frightened Cabal with the guns of their ships they opened fire turning the Cabal into nothing more then shadows of ash. Then they took off into the sky, to the stars above and warped home. "The Cabal learned a valuable lesson today!" said Garrett over the radio. " Don't fuck with a Warlock hahaha!" Staring into the void Vakarrus just smiled.
