Author's Notes: There's only one drabble for now but this will eventually be a collection of ficlets/random scenes which don't fit into my longer Legend of Dhalashar AU stories. The AU is a crossover with Genju no Seiza although no characters from that manga appear; it mainly borrows the location and character roles. In this AU, Ryuuki is the reincarnated ruler of the desert kingdom of Dhalashar and Shuurei is his priestess. The other characters are animal gods who serve Ryuuki and they can take on either human or animal forms. This first bit was written for the saiun_challenge LJ community's May Birthday Challenge, based on the prompt, "Thunderstorm."
Genre: Um, fluff?
Characters: Shuurei, Ryuuki
Summary: Even the desert kingdom of Dhalashar gets an occasional thunderstorm…
…
Shuurei frowned as she looked outside. "Storm clouds? But it was just sunny and we're in the middle of the desert!"
Ryuuki joined her by the window. "Hmm, it must be the kirin coming for a visit. He usually brings rain and thunder with him." Ryuuki made a pained face, remembering the din Ryuuren caused on previous trips to the Dhalashar palace. "He says that he is making music."
"Thunder?" Shuurei backed away from the window with alarm. At the first crash, she shrieked and jumped into Ryuuki's arms.
Ryuuki blinked at the priestess's unexpected actions. "Shuurei? Are you okay?"
She clung to him trembling, as the next bolt of lightning flashed, and buried her face in his chest. Her words were muffled by the king's purple draperies and her sobs. "…scared…hate thunder."
Ryuuki steered her away from the window and sat down, pulling her into his lap. "It'll be okay, Shuurei." He gently stroked her back and smiled as the sobs quieted. The priestess always seemed to be the one calming him so it was nice to have a chance to comfort her.
If it meant he got to hold Shuurei like this, maybe Ryuuren's visits weren't so bad after all…
