Just a little idea that wouldn't leave me alone.

Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek. Henry is mine, though.

Two weeks had passed since Spock's injury and he was recovering well. He had been allowed to return to his own quarters under strict instructions to continue to rest. As such, he enjoyed frequent visits from Doctor McCoy to check on him. It was during one of these visits that McCoy saw something rather unexpected.

McCoy punched in the entry code for Spock's quarters and the door slid open. He smiled at the sight which met his eyes. It had to be one of the most adorable things he had ever seen. Spock was curled up on the bed clutching a green teddy bear, his face a picture of contentment. The teddy had a replica Starfleet badge sewn to its chest and was missing an eye. Its fur was worn in places, showing that it was well-loved.

McCoy sat on the edge of the bed, causing Spock to stir slightly. "Who's 'at?" the Vulcan mumbled sleepily. "Ge' off."

"S'only me, ashal-veh," McCoy said softly, taking Spock's hand and entwining their fingers. "How is my precious hobgoblin?"

"Hello, Leonard. 'M well," Spock responded, curling closer to McCoy.

"Who's your buddy?"

Spock became suddenly alert. He sat up, looking embarrassed. "This is Henry," he explained reluctantly. "He was a gift from my mother."

"Nice to meet ya, Henry," McCoy said, shaking the bear's paw. "It's nothin' to be embarrassed about, Spock."

"He reminds me of my mother," Spock said quietly. "I find it … comforting."

McCoy wrapped his arms around Spock and held him tightly. "I like to help with that," he murmured. "Tell me how."

"Whenever I was unwell as a child," Spock supplied, his voice still quiet, "my mother would wrap me in a blanket with Henry. She would hold me much like you are now and sing to me."

McCoy thought for a moment, sifting through memories of songs he used to sing to Joanna when she was a baby. Eventually he settled on a choice. He lay back on the bed, pulling Spock down with him. "Are you comfortable, darlin'?" he asked. Spock nodded in response. McCoy began to sing.

Because you're gorgeous,
I'd do anything for you.
Because you're gorgeous,
I know you'll get me through.

Spock relaxed in his lover's arms, breathing in Henry's scent. The bear's fur smelled of warm nights and the sand on Vulcan. Spock sighed contentedly and surrendered himself to sleep, to dreams of lying in the sand with his Leonard.
