"So, what next?'' the Doctor asked, walking circles around the TARDIS controles. "Where do you want to go?''

Martha's mind went completely blank as the sounds of the TARDIS grew louder.

''Ehm...'' Martha said.

''Name anything.'' the Doctor added joyfully. ''Anything at all, just say it. D'you want to go into the future again? Or the past? The far end of the universe? Anything!''

He pressed buttons and pulled levers as he danced around the TARDIS consoles with a big grin on his face, like a small child who was anxious to show his friend his new toys.

''Ehm...what about...dinosaurs?'' Martha said. ''Prehistoric Times!''

But the Doctor wasn't as enthusiastic about it as she was.

''What's wrong with that?'' Martha asked.

''They all want to see the dinosaurs,'' the Doctor replied. ''But they always forget how dangerous it is to even set foot on Earth in those times! Haven't you ever seen Jurassic Park? And they're even scarier in real-life!''

''Well...what about...Rome?'' Martha said. ''Moving on to a different subject.

''No...'' the Doctor said, lost in memories once more. ''I had a fight with Julius Ceasar last time I was there and he hasn't forgiven me since...last time he sent a whole army after me...''

''You're almost making a habit of upsetting famous historical figures!'' Martha joked.

''Oi!'' the Doctor replied. ''Don't get smart with me! You're the one who was flirting with Shakespeare!''

''Yeah,'' Martha said. ''He called me his 'Dark Lady'.''

''Don't remind me.'' the Doctor said.

A part of the Tardis controles started buzzing and when the Doctor started hitting it, somehow smoke started to rise from it.

''Oh, well...'' the Doctor said as he waved the smoke away with his hands and blowing it away with his breath.

''Nothing serious.'' the Doctor said as he saw the worried look on Martha's face. ''She's ready to go but we still need a destination!''

''Well, you said I could name anything, but you've already discarded two of my ideas...'' Martha commented.

''Yeah, I know. Sorry.'' the Doctor said. ''Tell you what. The next one's going to be it.''

Martha smiled.

''You name it and we're going to go there. Right now.''

''Anything?'' Martha asked.

''Anything.'' the Doctor replied.

''Anywhere?''

''Anywhere.'' the Doctor said.

''All right then...'' Martha said. ''Let's say...''

The Doctor awaited her answer.

What was it going to be?

''Barcelona.'' Martha suddenly said.

The Doctor froze.

Martha slightly panicked on seeing that hurt look in the Doctor's eyes.

''What?'' she asked.

''Nothing.'' the Doctor lied.

''Something wrong?'' Martha asked.

''No, no...'' the Doctor replied. ''Everything's perfectly fine. Barcelona's fine. Perfect.''

''If you don't want to go...''

''No, no, no...'' the Doctor said. ''I promised you we were going to go there, so we are going to go. Now.''

The Doctor started to flick switches again and pulling levers, but without the happy dance or smile on his face as before.

''Are you sure?'' Martha said worried.

''Absolutely.'' the Doctor said, looking at Martha again with a fake smile on his face and a look of old sadness in his ancient eyes.

''Barcelona! Here we come!'' the Doctor cried.

But all of a sudden, Martha wasn't so keen on going to Barcelona anymore.

In fact, she regretted ever saying its name.

Martha knew this had to be about Rose.

The Doctor's mysterious former companion.

Only she could make the Doctor so sad.

Martha wanted to ask him about Rose, but in the end she didn't.

She knew of the sorrow which she would be reminding the Timelord of, so she said nothing and remained silent for the entire trip to Barcelona.

Until the TARDIS stopped roaring and the Doctor started smiling again...
