The ride had finally smoothed out when Martha realised. "Stop!"

"What?"

"Stop."

"Yes, I heard you. I can't just put the brakes on, I'm not driving down the motorway."

Martha gave him a mock glare, "Do not mention motorways," she cautioned and he gave her a cheeky grin. "We have to go back."

The Doctor frowned. "Why?"

"Look at me."

The Doctor did as he was instructed, looking Martha up and down with a critical, approving eye. "You look lovely, nice shoes."

Martha shook her head, "Do you have some kind of shoe fetish? Don't answer that," she forestalled him. "Lovely as this dress, and apparently my shoes, may be, they're not really suitable for running around being chased by aliens. Trust me, I know. My feet are killing me."

"Ah," the Doctor nodded solemnly."So you need some clothes. No need to go back, I have plenty."

"No offense, but I'm not sure your clothes are going suit me, or fit me for that matter."

"Yes. I wasn't thinking of my clothes. There's a wardrobe room full of, as you'd probably expect, clothes."

Martha looked dubious. "That'll fit me?"

"Errm, well, I'm sure some of them will. There's quite a lot."

"What about underwear?"

"Underwear?"

"Yes. Knickers, bras - you know the kind of thing."

"Well, not really, no. Can't say I've ever looked too closely at the women's underwear section. Actually I don't know whether is a women's..."

"I don't care if there is a women's underwear section. I have no problem with second hand jeans, tops, shoes - but I draw the line at wearing someone else's underwear."

The Doctor nodded in agreement, although he actually looked confused. "I'm not sure it's been used before. But," he quickly added when he saw her about to object again, "we'll go back to your flat and you can pick up what you need."

"Thank you."

"Not a problem. But if we're going back for your clothes and, errm underwear, that'll be the perfect opportunity for you to collect your books."

"Why?"

"Because you have exams to pass."

"You know, after everything that's happened, my exams don't seem that important anymore."

The Doctor fixed her with a solemn stare. "They're very important. The ordinary day to day things are the most important in the universe, they're the reason the universe exists. You're getting your books."

"Yes, Doctor," Martha voice was serious, but her eyes were laughing.

"Good. But first I want to show something." The Doctor took Martha's hand, led her across the room and opened the outside doors. "What do you think?"

Martha stared in amazement at the view before her. "Where are we?"

"This is the Manhurn Nebula. It's a binary system and there's a plasma storm about to start just over there," he pointed to the left. "From here we can watch the fires. Every colour your can imagine and some you can't. I thought it was about time you actually saw some space, since we're travelling in a spaceship."

"How are we breathing?"

"The TARDIS is looking after us."

"As usual," Martha smiled and turned back to watch the stars.
