Galadriel and the Child
Galadriel walked softly, across the leaf-strewn path. She sighed, like the first breath of winter bringing the frost, and all around her, her sorrow spread. She had been at many councils today, and The Lady had learned such terrible news. Arwen Undomiel, Galadriel's grand-child had received the gift of man-kind – death. Glancing apprehensively around her, she headed towards a stone table. It was round and perfectly made. On top, set into the stone was a flat marble stone. Galadriel looked into it, and placed her hand on the surface. She had just done it to calm her mind, and feel the soothing smooth marble. She gasped, a flurry of visions appeared in her mind, swirling around, like a hurricane, and Galadriel fought to control them. Once they had all been stored and controlled, she lifted her hand from the marble. Half running, she made her way towards an elf-haven, and sat down on a bench. She sat controlling her breath for a while, then sorted through the fragments of visions she had Seen.
After running through them several times in her mind, Galadriel was certain of what she had seen – Arwen had left a child behind on this Earth. Yet there was one thing she was not sure about. It seemed the girl did not know of her parentage, and was living in a different place. However Galadriel had travelled through the whole of Middle-Earth and was convinced that the place where the girl dwelt was like nowhere in Middle-Earth. Puzzled, Galadriel went into the trance-like state Elf-kind call sleep, and lay dreaming until the sun was low in the sky. Then Galadriel got up, confident of her quest. She slipped into a more practical garb – a pair of green leggings, and a knee-length green dress.
The White Lady wandered down the path, until she reached a clearing in the surrounding trees. She stepped softly into the centre, and drew a deep breath. She held up the now fading ring, Nenya to the moonlight, and summoned all her strength. "By the power vested to me by this ring, I ask to be granted passageway through the Unknown Paths." She waited for a while, and got what she wanted. Two trees, that seemed lighter and younger than the others, disappeared into the ground, and revealed a beam of golden light. Galadriel stepped slowly forward, her mind focused on that one girl. She stepped into the beam, with the image of a young baby wearing the Evenstar pendant, and felt the golden warmth embrace her.
