It was quiet day under the afternoon sun in the Malfoy rose garden. There were cheerful birds chirping, delightful butterflies flitting about, and all the beautiful flowers that filled the air which such lovely fragrances. All this beauty and calm was lost on the two children currently running through it.
Draco sprinted through his mother's rose garden, his arms flailing in front of him as he evaded the person behind him and the plants in front. His short blonde hair whipped around and he screamed for her to stop chasing him. All he heard were her giggles and he screamed again. He didn't want her to put roses in his hair. They were girly and that was one thing he was not.
Their mothers were inside having tea and had let them 'go play' while they gossiped about their other friends. It was so very boring and Draco was happy to be away from them, but not like this. Draco knew better than to run back inside and interrupt them. So he was outside, running for his life.
"Drakey!" his attacker cried and he jumped into a nearby bush, ignoring the thorns that stuck his skin. The girl caught up to where she had last seen the boy, right outside the bush. Draco could see her little legs, little black dress and short black hair move back and forth as she looked around. Her arms were full of large flowers and he scowled at the number she was going to use. No way those were going in his hair. She called out his name again and Draco sniggered, happy he had finally stumped her and hoping she would walk away from his hiding spot so he could find a better one.
She walked a few feet forward, her hands full and her eyes still scanning when she tripped. She fell to the ground, not able to brace herself with her occupied hands. All the flowers fell, some crushed under her body when she landed on them. Draco laughed at her as she sniffled on the ground and pulled her leg towards her. Girls were always such babies.
Then he saw that there was a long cut running from her knee and down her leg. Draco jumped out of the bush and ran to her side. "Pansy, Pansy, don't cry," he shushed as he bent down to get a better look. The cut looked deeper up close. The red blood contrasted scarily with her pale skin and her black dress. Draco wasn't sure what to do, and silent tears streamed down Pansy's face as she looked to him.
Draco bent down, picking her up as much as he could with his small arms, and helped her back to the house. Pansy leaned over and gave him a sound kiss on his cheek, Draco too worried to even wipe the cooties off. She pulled one rose that she had placed in her dress pocket, slightly crushed in her fall, and stuck it behind his ear and said, "My hero."
