My version of the morning after.
Rick woke slowly, without opening his eyes he tried to stretch out, but was unable too, he could feel something beside him. Deciding it was better to open his eyes rather than figure it out blindly, Rick slowly opened his eyes. Peering through his lashes, he looked around carefully.
He was lying on the couch in his loft; a soft light was dancing around the living area. Still peering through his nearly closed lids Rick looked up to see the menu to "Hard Boiled" flashing across a bed sheet that he had clipped up. It was then he could smell it, the wonderful scent he couldn't place, but was yet so familiar to him. He inhaled again; it filled his lungs and nostrils. Looking through his lashes for the source of the sweet scent, his eyes fell on someone beside him.
"Kateā¦" He whispered, there was no answer, she was sleeping so peacefully and deeply.
Noticing her leg was draped over his and his right arm was wrapped around her middle, keeping her close. Their bodies folded perfectly into each other. She was wearing one of his dark blue shirts and a pair of his boxers. He could feel her inhale and exhale steadily, slowly. Opening his eyes fully, he could see her long auburn hair strewn across her face and down her shoulder. Afraid he would wake her, he didn't move, only watched the slight rise and fall of her shoulder, he was content with watching, he did all the time, when she wasn't looking at him or didn't notice he was.
After an eternity, she started to stir, but Rick didn't remove his arm from around her torso.
"Morning." He whispered, placing a gentle kiss on her shoulder.
"Morning." Kate's soft voice replied as a long fingered hand appeared, using the tips of her fingers she brushed strands of hair behind her ear. And turning over in his arms, not caring that he was holding her so close.
Her hazel eyes met his blue. She reached a hand up and stroked his face, brushing her nails through the hair at the base of his neck. She moved her hand again, bringing it to his lips, she touched the corner of his mouth ever so gently, the same way she had the night before.
Rick was unsure whether or not to kiss her yet or not. Kate seemed to have read his mind and moved forward slightly, brushing her lips to his. Rick met them with his own.
