Widening Ripples

Disclaimer: Not mine, never will be. I'm just playing with them and will return them undamaged to Double Secret Productions.

A/N: I know that Joseph Mallozzi mentioned the first line in his Gateworld "Making of" for "Ripple Effect." But I swear I thought of it as soon as blue cammies Mitchell came through the 'gate.

Chapter 1 – WTF?

"What the frell is going on?" Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell shouted as he rolled to his knees and faced the guns of the gate room's SFs.

His team brought their weapons to the ready. This was supposed to be home, friendly territory, dammit. Cam scanned the room and his eyes encountered … himself? And another one over there and, Joseph and Mary, another one in the control room.

"Stand down!" General Landry's voice barked after a few tense moments.

Everybody lowered their weapons and Cam took a moment to catch his breath. His drawl deepened just a touch. "Sir, I repeat, what's goin' on?"

----

Cam lifted his aching head from his hands. Facing him across the interrogation room's table was Daniel Jackson. Not the Daniel Jackson he knew but an alternate reality Daniel Jackson. Looked like his world's Jackson, guzzled coffee like his world's Jackson, talked and talked and talked like his world's Jackson, but a different Jackson just the same. Cam had read some freaky weird shit when he'd familiarized himself with past SG1 missions but he'd hoped getting himself kidnapped by ninja Jaffa would fill his intergalactic wackiness quota for the year.

Jackson seemed a bit blasé about the whole thing. Stuck in an alternate reality with no way home? Been there, done that. Be glad the Goa'uld aren't attacking.

"So, Colonel, I think we've covered the current situation. Do you have any questions?" Jackson's voice had taken on the tone that Cam recognized as I-must've-pontificated-long-enough-cause-now-I-really-need-to-offload-some-coffee.

"Yeah, Jackson, I've got it."

"Well then, I'll take you down to the quarters where we're stashing, um, the quarters we've set aside for all the versions of you."

The two men exited the interrogation room and started down the long corridor to the elevator. Jackson shot Cam the inquiring laser beam look Cam had mentally dubbed "Blue Steel".

"So, Mitchell, 'frell'?"

Cam chuckled at the archeologist's puzzlement. "It's from a sci fi show in my reality, got the actor guy in it who used to be MacGyver." Jackson just looked more confused. "Well, my team kinda bonded over it. Carter likes to slam the science, Teal'c digs the puppets and our version of you thinks the commando chick is smokin' hot."
