A/N: I haven't seen the newest episode, but I know what Sam's missing. I keep thinking about how Castiel put so much effort into rebuilding Dean... then what put so little effort into rebuilding Sam? And why? Enjoy.

There was no great rush when his work began. No emergency. Like everything else in Hell, the soul he'd come for was already broken.

They all scream when he works. The skins pulls taunt under his nimble fingers, covering muscle and bone. Bits of blood drip. It's a work in progress. He leaves out some details, souls and ethics… unimportant things.

He leaves nothing as grandiose as a handprint on his children, merely a kiss on the forehead so he can check in on them.

It'll be our little secret, says the Dealer.

Sam Winchester thanks him as he leaves.
