"I don't care" I yelled as I slammed the front door. Hot tears stung my eyes as I headed to the street. The door to my house swung open loudly. I turned even though I knew who would be standing there.
"Don't you dare leave while I'm talking to you!" My mother shouted.
"Like you can stop me!" I spat back viciously my hands clenched in tight fists.
My mother stood in the doorway just as pissed off as she had been when this argument had been inside the privacy of our home "Running from this won't help!"
"Like how you didn't run from father?!" She didn't answer just stared at me stunned for a moment before managing to sputter out a weak sentence
"Akira, You know that was different." She almost looked hurt by my statement.
"I am done with you!" I spat at her. This time I saw pure and utter pain cross her face. I knew it wasn't fair to use her own words against her, but it gave me great satisfaction. She then, like always, slammed the door shut locking it. I glared at the wooden door coming to a solution that was my go to option went it came to situations like this. I had to get away from her. As far away from her as I possibly could. I had to get away from both of them I could hear his deep voice from the other side of the door. His words were muffled by the barrier. I walked back up to the house not even bothering to try and open the door knowing she was standing there waiting for me. She would remain there for a good five minutes before realizing I wasn't standing at the edge of the street. I climbed up the fence to my window and sat waiting for her. The front door opened.
"Akira?" Her sweet voice was filled with sadness. It always amazed me. How she managed such a sad voice after only a few minutes was truly masterful.
"Akira?" This time it was more urgent. Scared even. She was such a wonderful actress I often wondered why she didn't have awards. The amount of concerned she managed to force in her voice was truly something to behold. In my younger age, I would have come running from my hiding place crying and apologizing. I was much smarter now and it didn't have the same effect it use to. My mother closed the door after I didn't come running to her side. My bedroom door opened and she walked into my room. I climbed the fence and hid around the corner and waited. She paced around my room for a couple of minutes before pretending to leave closing the door. I stayed put getting agitated by her antics. My mother finally left my room and I climbed up into the window sitting on the ledge for a moment, hesitating but steeled myself, I didn't want to face her passive aggressive shit. I stepped down into my room I looked around for a moment before grabbing my backpack gutting it and filling it with things I was sure I would need like clothes and a small blanket and pillow than my art book and a few pencils and pens then zipped it up. I quietly opened My bedroom door and looked down the hall. My mother's bedroom door was open and I could just make out her shadow pacing back and forth. I headed down the stairs to the kitchen opening the cabinets as quietly as I could. I climbed up onto the counter. I opened a pocket in my bag and started to fill it with food cringing every time the wrappers made noise.
"That wasn't very nice Akira." A deep voice said next to me making me jump out of my skin. It was Kaien, my stepfather. His large hand rested on my lower back keeping me balanced. I glared down at him, his dark brown eyes kind and blissfully unaware of the daggers I was stabbing him with. He removed his hand once I was properly balanced and leaned against the counter looking up at me.
"She wasn't nice either," I growled back.
"You should apologize," He said looking into the cabinet "Pass me that chocolate bar will you?" I did as he asked some of my anger dissipating with his calm childish aura.
"Yeah, no," I said zipping my bag back up. The look he gave me was one of amusement and fondness. I gave a sigh running a hand through my hair "I will if she does."
He nodded with a small smile "Give me an hour." Kaien lifted me off the counter placing me on the ground gently. Moving out of the way closing the cabinets after I passed him. I heading back upstairs. I went into my room locking the door. I pulled a picture of her smiling off the isle and threw it off to the side irritated with just a picture of the women. I pulled my jacket on then tied my black bandanna around my neck leaving enough room so I could put it over my face if I wanted to. I searched around my room for my staff, a gift, from my father. After finding it I slid it into my belt loops at the back of my pants. I climbed out of the window down to the fence. I reached up carefully pulling it closed.
One hour? I thought then gave a short humorless laugh. Yeah right.
Half way down the street my phone I looked at the screen.
Mom, I ignored it putting it in my pocket. It rang again I pulled my phone out this time answering it.
"What?!"
Akira Matsumoto, are you ready to accept your destiny? My phone asked in a female robotic voice.
"What the hell?" I looked at the screen but there wasn't a name or a number.
The screen read:
WOULD YOU LIKE TO CONTINUE?
YES
NO
I stared at the screen for a moment. I glanced over my shoulder to my house then gave an affirmative nod and pressed 'yes'
Take the 5:45 outbound train from Jiyugaoka Station. My phone instructed.
"Why?" I asked looking at the time 5:20 my phone read.
"I have just enough time" I mumbled walking the rest of the way down the street. I reaching under a bush grabbing the skateboard that I had hidden under it. I turned the corner to come face to face with an attractive familiar face. Dark chocolate brown stared at me with surprise his phone in his hand. He had just finished a conversation since he had begun to lower it until I appeared.
"Sorry," he said looking at me then back to his phone which he quickly put away.
"It's fine." I responded, "It was my fault anyways."
"Your mom just called" He stated "She sounded really upset,"
I frowned annoyed "Just leave it Hisoka"
"Akira you can't just run away every time you're angry or upset." He started but stopped when he saw the anger crossed my face.
"Hisoka." I said sharply his gaze remained level "You can't talk about running away."
"I stopped running."
"No" I laughed darkly "You didn't."
His face showed surprise "How would you know!"
"I know you, Hisoka!" I said pointedly "Once things get serious whether it's good or bad you run."
His eyes looked to the side before meeting my dark cobalt ones. "I don't want to run anymore." It was my turn to be confused. He leaned forward and tried to kiss me.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" I hissed pushing his face away.
"I care a lot about you." He looked embarrassed "I thought you felt how I feel"
"Trust me Hisoka." I said bitterly "You made sure I don't"
"But…" He stuttered "I thought."
"You thought wrong," I shoved past him dropping my skateboard starting down the street.
"Akira, Wait" I could hear his heavy footfalls as he ran behind me "Come on, stop!"
"Sorry but I'm not," I said over my shoulder
"Akira look out!" his shout made my head snap forward as my board reached the middle of an intersection a speeding car came barreling towards me. I tried to stop but I was flung forward into the street. A gut-wrenching crack was heard along with the screech of tires. Burnt rubber filled the air. Time slowed down as the air was knocked out of my lungs as I hit the ground turning as the car came to a full stop. The drivers stared out the front window a look of terror on his face, Hisoka on the other side of the street frozen in place. I looked down my skateboard now just splinters. Then time came crashing back down I stood up quickly both Hisoka and the driver sighed relieved. The man in the car started to get out of his car, Hisoka coming around the car. I turned around and ran. Only one thought went through my head. Run. Adrenaline coursed through my blood like fire, my lungs burning as I run faster then I have ever run before. I faintly heard Hisoka calling my name as I got farther and farther from the car. I stopped to breath when I reached the train station my body feeling like it was about to collapse. I took my phone out looking at the time 5:40.
Just enough time I thought as I caught my breath. I pulled my hood and bandanna. I took off in a full sprint jumping over the ticket gate thing. This, of course, didn't go unnoticed by the security guard who came after me. I weaved through the crowd of startled pedestrians to the train. I was much better and faster at this than him. I ran into a person as I got onto the train sending us both tumbling to the ground. The person gave a soft grunt as I knocked them to the ground. The person looked at me as I slowly got up. My dark cobalt eyes meeting his annoyed darker blue ones.
"Sorry," I said helping him off the ground I leaned up against the wall opposite of him as he turned away from me. I took a moment to study him as I adjusted my hair under my hood. His hair was long and dark pulled up in a low ponytail. A blue bandanna with golden Tiger stripes over his hair. He wore a blue jacket with strips of yellow along the arms over a yellow shirt. A loud exasperated sigh caught my attention. I looked over to a boy in red as he flopped over next to me. He rubbed his hat covered head looking down at his phone. A frown crossed my lips wondering if I wasn't the one person to receive the message from the strange lady. I was brought out of my thoughts when he shifted into a more comfortable position. Pale brown hair peeked out from his goggle-clad hat, his shirt was yellow and had a funny looking symbol on it, he wore a red button up shirt over the yellow one. My attention shifted again as all the phones on the train went haywire. I pulled mine out to look at the screen then answered it.
Transfer to the 6:00 westbound subway from Shibuya-
My phone was cut off when a loud exasperated yell resounded next to me. I looked at the boy in red as he yelled at his phone.
"I'm doing the best I can."
I smirked amused by his yell I glanced at the time realizing just why he was yelling. When the train came to a stop I got off heading to the elevator. I held it open for the boy in blue as he entered after me.
"Thanks" His voice was strangely hollow but nice to listen to at the same time. I shook my head banishing the thought
Why must I be cursed with these useless emotions I thought annoyed leaning against the wall pressing the back of my skull to the metal.
A soft laugh resonated in the back of my mind. Whether you think they are useless or not they, for the most part, keep you sane. A sweet voice spoke between her soft chuckles.
You're not helping I grumble crossing my arms annoyed.
She laughed in response Whatever. There was a short pause You should move unless you want to get hurt.
"Huh?" I looked out the door to see the red boy charging at the door. I moved to the side as he jumped into the elevator just as the doors closed. He rammed head first into the wall groaning as he sat up. A smile started to form on face went a shock of electricity shot down my spine my eyes shot up to the floor numbers. I slowly sank into a sitting position just as the elevator shook. I put my hands on the railing bracing myself. The floor light flashed past the last of the numbers and kept going.
This destiny is really starting to bite. I thought bitterly as the elevator came to an abrupt stop.
"I really need to stop landing on my head" The boy in red grumbled standing up.
Not his day is it? She remarked amused as I stood up with a small nod as the elevator doors opened.
My phone began to speak It is up to you now. Which will you choose?
I stared out of the elevator perplexed by the woman's comment. Then gained understanding when I saw all the trains. The station was loud even though it wasn't crowded. Kids of varying ages wandered around boarding and just messing around the area. I stepped out of the elevator as the boy in red spoke
"Which one are you going on?" I didn't bother answering him. I noticed that there was a silvery blue one that no one seemed to be going on. I got on it looking around and saw no one. I was completely and utterly alone. At least physically alone. She was always there in the back of my mind… The train started moving and I sat down and put my bag on the couch then I pulled my jacket off when the door opened. The boy in blue walked into the train car he looked at me for a moment before sitting down across from me as I pulled my bandanna down so it covered my neck.
"Hello" I managed to say after a long silence deciding to say something.
"Hey" He responded his dark eyes studied me for a long moment making me feel uncomfortable I played with the thread bracelet around my wrist almost jumping when he finally spoke again. "You're the person who ran into me on the train?" The question was slow and uncertain.
I rubbed my head awkwardly and nodded slowly "Yeah, sorry 'bout that." I pulled my bandanna up to hide the blush I could feel forming. "I was running from security and didn't see you when I ran in…"
I cleared my throat biting my lower lip uncomfortable "Er… My name is Akira Matsumoto."
He stared at me for a moment before answering "I'm Koji Minamoto" The train car shook as we entered the tunnel for a moment we were left in darkness before the light in flickered on.
I guess the adventure begins I thought nervously.
Guess it does. She whispered back.
