I do not own Vampire Knight.

This is my first attempt to write a Vampire Knight fanfic. After reading the ending, I feel like writing a happy one for Kaname. But I don't know yet if I will continue this one. It depends on the respond of the readers and my writing mood because I can only write when I have motivation or feel like it. Thanks for the read. ^^

Kaname opened his eyes to the same yet so different world. It was brighter than he, a dark creature, could remember because he now opened his eyes as a human. From now on he would walk in the daylight instead of the darkness.

It had been a thousand years since he had ripped his heart and threw it into the furnace and became the new parents, the main furnace that could create weapons that could kill pureblooded vampire like himself. Because otherwise the humans would have no way of fighting off the vampires, especially the purebloods who could mind-controlled others and turned humans into vampires.

The human needed the furnace and the furnace would only work when it contained a pureblood vampire's heart that had the will to protect humans. The old furnace was no longer working because he had released his old friend and lover from the burden she had been carried on for ten thousand years. She was at peace knowing he would carry on her duty of protecting the humans.

It had been a thousand years since he had lost his heart and closed his eyes; he had thought he had died for sure. So many things had changed, yet so much still remained the same.

What had changed the most was that he was now a human, the promised that he would not wander in the dark loneliness for eternity like he had once did when he was still a vampire. His friends had tried their best to preserve his fallen body so they could revive him. He learned that he had a beautiful daughter, the daughter that born from the kind beautiful woman he loved, Yuki.

This was his third chance at life. Not many people would get the chance to open their eyes again after their death. And he had not only had his second chance, but the third one as well. But he wasn't sure if it was a blessing or a curse.

He had long longed for peace, for rest. When he ripped his heart out, he never expected to open his eyes again. Yet here he was, alive.

This was the gift Yuki tried to give him, tried to let him see the world as a human, the bright world she wanted to share with him that did not existed to him when he was a vampire.

It was true that so many things had changed, but so many were the same.

Even though it had been a thousand years, the war between human and vampire were still on going and would continue for many years to come.

Time may have changed to many people, they had moved on with their lives, but to Kaname, his time stood still.

To him, he felt like only yesterday when he closed his eyes to the world. He was still the same Kaname who tried to protect his Yuki.

He still in loved with Yuki, the woman who was now his grown up daughter's mother and the wife of another man's. And most importantly, he still felt lost and all alone in the world.

No one was by his side and his heart was still ached; incomplete.

Because Yuki's heart belonged to Zero.
