Yes, it's true, this is Cody/Nate. No, I do not hate Cody/Squib. I just can't help it! C/N are so CUTE!...from what I've seen/read. This is horribly short, and rather weird, and just a little drabble from Nate's POV.
For any Canadians who, like me, have already fallen in love with Nate
For any fans in France who like Nate- you lucky ducks get to understand what he says!
To Lily, Subcity, and Elfine, who made it possible for me to see/know of Nate in the first place
For Candy- when I get back on Monday, I expect to see a new fic from you! You know which one I'm talking about!
And for anyone who doesn't know who Nate is (how horrible!), he is Bates' son. Hehe, Nate Bates…anyways, he is introduced in season 2. He isn't a tennis player. He and Cody get close. C/S break up because of it (I think…I saw it in French, so I'm not totally sure of the specifics). That's pretty much it. Oh, and he listens to vinyl. Doesn't that make you just melt?

Observation
So she dumped the tennis player? Or, technically, he dumped her. Either way, it's for the best. The first thing she did was run to him and tell him. And the way she laughed not-quite-convincingly when she mentioned Squib thought they were 'more than friends' gives him hope. Just like the way she blushes when they maintain eye contact for too long, or looks away when he comments that she needs someone more compatible for her. Someone more suitable. Someone with the same interests. Someone like him.
Looking at the world
They're sort of awkward around each other now, which is to be expected. The way he looks at the ground when they pass or watches her out of the corner of his eye lets Nate know that Squib's still got it bad. The way Cody's spending more and more time away from the tennis players and with him instead, reading, talking, listening to vinyl, lets Nate know that maybe she's ready to move on.
Infatuation
She really is too good for Squib. He wasn't just saying that to make her squirm. She's smart and funny and cultured and beautiful and a million other things he'd never understand. But Nate gets it, and Nate gets her. And what's more, she gets him. It's been a long time since someone's been able to get him. It's the first time he's had someone he can call a real friend. It's the first time he's met a girl like Cody.
Staring at the girl
Together, they can just sit. He's seen her with Squib, when they were still a couple. They always had to be kissing or talking or goofing around. They can sit for hours with a book in each of their laps and some music in the background and they're set. It's his favorite way to spend the time. That is, until the afternoon when, not looking up from her book, nor even stopping her foot that's bouncing lightly to the music, she takes his hand. And that is a million times better. So they sit there, in silence. Because they don't have to say anything. They get each other. They are perfectly suited. Perfectly comfortable. Perfectly compatible.
Perfect.
