Set in: 1979
Characters: Lily Potter, Sirius Black
"Sirius," Lily said to the floating head in the fireplace. "Can you come over here?"
"Sure," Sirius answered suspiciously. James was doing work for the order a lot lately and Lily had been talking to him like this at night. She hadn't broken down though but he could tell it was coming.
Sirius stepped out of the fire, brushed the soot of himself, and sat down on the coach by Lily. She looked up at him with a sad smile. He gave her one back. Lily sighed.
"I
knew who he was when I took his name
but somehow knowing is just
not the same late at night…
He knows the danger but he does what
he does
He calls it duty, but I call it love
so here I am
While
he's gone too some foreign land
And
I cry cause I'm all alone
and the nights get so cold and long
And
I try not to think he won't come home
But I'm sleepin' with the
telephone."
Lily sobbed shrugging slightly the words coming from her mouth. She couldn't hold the tears in anymore and flung her arms around Sirius.
"The
yellow ribbon on my neighbor's gate
always reminds me that
someone's awake just like me
I hear the sirens and I read the
Prophet
He laughs and leaves with his wand and his blue
uniform
And I pray God keeps him safe from harm
And
I cry cause I'm all alone
and the nights get so cold and long
And
I try not to think he won't come home
But I'm sleepin' with the
telephone."
Lily was crying now but was still managing to keep her composure. Sirius was sitting there rocking her and doing his best not to upset her more than she already was.
"I
lose him in my darkest dreams
And my blood runs cold and my heart
skips a beat
So I get up
I can't take anymore
Sometimes I
hate how much I love him," Lily hit Sirius chest sobbing, though
looked up at him laughing.
"But
everyday I love him more. And I try not to think he won't come
home
But I'm sleepin' with the telephone."
Lily looked up at Sirius through her tear stricken face and shrugged absentmindedly. Her eyes where wide and bloodshot though you could still see the laughter from her laugh in them. Her checks were tearstricken and flushed, but she was still radiant as she always was.
"It's gonna be ok," and that's all he needed to say.
