I was going through my notebook and found this piece. At first, I was unsure of what it was, then I realized it was a Naruto fanfic I hadn't posted. I wrote it for a challenge awhile back, but then the challenge prompt got changed. So yeah, here you go. Another piece about Kushina!
Disclaimer: Seriously, if I owned Naruto, do you think I'd be writing this? If you do, you are seriously mistaken. I would instead be dropping anvils on Sasuke's head right about now, emo boy that he is. Sheesh!
The little red-headed girl wailed while the rain fell around her like blood. She clawed at the saturated ground, nails ripping and splintering. She was unaware of her grotesquely broken finger nails. Finally, the mud parted enough for her to see pale, rotting flesh. She uncovered the face, eyes wide.
"Mommy," she sobbed, a deranged expression on her young face.
The eyes of the corpse snapped open, and cold, hard fingers made wretched snapping noises and the wrapped around the girl's tiny wrist. She screamed and struggled in desperation to get away.
Uzumaki Kushina woke suddenly, drenched in sweat, her heart racing. Staring at the ceiling, she tried to relax, to push out the lingering images of her nightmare.
She jumped when a warm hand was placed on her cold, wet arm. "The nightmares again?"
Kushina turned her head and smiled wearily at her lover, unsure whose nerves she was trying to ease more- his or her own. "Sometimes they come back."
