A/N: Yay, school's out~ 8D I wrote this a while ago too, and never quite got around to posting it, so I thought now would be the opportune time.

Euphemia dies happy, with static in her memory and a stuttering heartbeat.
She doesn't understand the blood and the gunshots and the screaming; wonders why everyone is, when she is so obliviously happy, the fractured memories flickering over her mind. Her hands look smooth but her palms are red, aching, like she's gripped something too hard. The worst part is that Suzaku is crying— and it hurts, oh it does, because the smile on his face is a lie and she can feel it. She loves him, and she knows that he would never lie to her, but his voice is choked and the tears aren't of happiness. Maybe she's naive, but not to the point of denial.
But he'll move on. Even if she's dying— and that's it, isn't it; she's dying and that why breathing is getting harder and the edges of her vision are blurring and all she sees is white— he'll move on, because he has the Special Zone. Their dream is real now, though the nagging sensation and the hazy, dawning horror that something isn't right suggest that there was a flaw in the plan. He would live on and fix it, whatever had happened. She wished she could stay with him and help him, but he would understand why she had to leave.
One of the things she never told him— out of many, and she would wish again but she's finding hard to do even that now— was that she was named after the emotion euphoria. Intense feelings of happiness or excitement,the dictionary told her. It was something she tried to bring into everyone's lives; love and joy and appreciation for what you have. She felt euphoric. It was the oddest thing, the urge to laugh and sing because—
I love you, she almost says, and the heart monitor beeps flat.
