'The Night comes before the Dawn.'
It padded down the ancient stone hall towards the foul odor of death, decay, and tainted blood covering the familiar scent of pack. As it nosed open the door and was struck by the sanitary smell of chemicals, it felt more than saw the moon falling outside a window, and the horizon lightening through the other.
It(he?), crept towards the bed which smelled of pack, cringing at the unfamiliar scents assualting his(it's?) nose as rows of beds passed by. As he jumped onto the boy's bed, he(it?) could feel himself being attacked from within, something raging inside his body.
As he crawled towards the head of messy black hair, green eyes opened in a pale face and struggled to focus. At last the silence was broken as the boy struggled to draw breath, releasing it violently in a fit of coughs as his body attempted to purge the blood from his lungs. As the moon began to fall below the horizon, the boy hoarsely whispered, "Moony," then let loose a quiet laugh which fell into a rattling series of coughs. "Well," He whispered, "'each must die by the hand of the other' I suppose." He let loose a final series of coughs and fell still, seemingly at peace.
As the wolf felt the last of his pack begin to fade, he also felt the sun rise behind him as the moon vanished before his eyes. Even as the agony of the change and the loss of power stuck him and mingled with the torment of the disease ravaging his body, Remus reached to close the boy's eyes. A faint smile split his face as he turned to view rising sun and the lightening sky, a faint laugh breaking the renewed silence.
As he lay down next to the boy, gasping at the pain of the movement, the point of a wand approached his temple. Focusing his mind and body, smiling at the morbid irony, he broke the silence for a final time, in synchronism with the boy. A thin silver strand dropped into an intricately runed bowl as the last breath and final words of the last bastions of light echoed through the hallowed halls of the school they called home.
"Crimson Dawn, blood has been shed this Night."
