Hello everyone! Well, this is very awkward for me. I've had many, many idea's and partially written fan fictions before, but I've never actually finished, OR PUBLISHED one before. So, I guess this is officially my first fan fiction, since I've never actually shared one before. Funny how, I get just one simple idea for a fan fiction, and I ACTUALLY go through with this one. I'm a little scared, yet also excited to finally share something that I've thought of from my own brain. Anyway, enough of my little shpeal, you guys don't wanna read this, you wanna just jump straight into the fan fiction I've written. Well, alright! Here you are! And, I guess most people do disclaimers don't they. Well, I don't own Fire Emblem, or any of the characters either. Enjoy!
~Lucina~
After all the things that have been going our way recently, things could not have gone worse for us today. We had finally won the war against Valm! The Fire Emblem was almost complete, all we needed was the final gemstone, Sable, and then Father could perform the Awakening. Mother and Father were calmly talking about such things, and I was eavesdropping on them. I know Father doesn't approve of me doing such things, but I am still all too used to the way I had to live in my future. Though I am loathe to admit it, all I did in that time was cower and stay hidden where it was safe. I mean, for Naga's sake, I sent my best friends and little brother into Plegia to reclaim the Fire Emblem and the five gems, while I stayed in what remained of Ylisstol's castle, in safety. I would never forgiven myself if any of them had died while they were away.
But, my mind is wandering. Not long after Father reassured my doubts of him withstanding Naga's fire, Uncle Frederick returned with news of Sable's whereabouts. (I call all of the Shepherds my aunts and uncles, and so do all of my friends too.) He informed us, that King Validar of Plegia had extended an invitation to Plegia's castle. That Plegia had been safeguarding the gem, and wished to return it to Father. Father, agreed to meet with King Validar, even though it obviously smelt of a trap.
The Shepherds made their way to Plegia, and there, we met with King Validar. Mother had spotted armed soldiers hiding in the shadows as we were shown into the audience chamber, and there, we had our answer. This was indeed, a trap. Validar and Aversa then made their appearances known to us, and demanded the Fire Emblem of Father. When Father refused, Validar ordered our capture. Luckily, Mother was smart enough to already have an escaped route planned out.
We hastily fought our way through many soldiers to reach the exit, and we were almost home free. Then Validar appeared right before us and attacked Father. And then, IT happened. Mother, she- At Vailidar's orders, she stole the Fire Emblem from Father, and gave it to Validar. Afterwards, we quickly made our escape. However, the damage, had already been done.
Once we were in safety, Mother asked Father to leave her behind, since the cursed blood she shared with Validar, her father, my grandfather, gave him dominion over her. Father would hear nothing of it, and Uncle Frederick told Mother to get back on the horse, as she shouldn't just give up. The two eventually convinced Mother, however, there is now not a doubt in my mind. I now know, what it is I must do, to prevent my terrible future.

I took a walk away from camp. I was much too ashamed from what happened, from what I did. I just wanted to be by myself. However, this I would apparently not receive. I looked up, and there was Lucina walking towards me. She stopped a little ways away from me, and I said nothing. After a moment, Lucina spoke up.
"Beg pardon, Mother. Might I have a word?"
She seemed apprehensive, but then again, maybe that was just my wanting to brood getting in the way. "Lucina. What is it?" I asked. I wondered what it was she wanted to ask me, but I knew, it probably had something to do with what happened with the Fire Emblem.
She wouldn't meet my eye as she said, "It's about Father." She looked up and continued, "I have memories of him, you know. From when I was little. Before he...died."
Now it was my time to look away. "I see..." Where was she going with this?
When I looked back up, I could see that a sad smile made it's way to Lucina's face. "He was courageous, and kind, and everyone spoke fondly of him. People say he was brave right up until the very end. I always yearned to know him better. And now that I do... I can see that the world will be robbed of a very great man." The smile vanished from her face. "I won't allow that to happen."
Hearing her speak of Chrom, it made me think of all the love I feel towards him, and as well, towards Lucina and Morgan. A smile touched my face before I said to her, "I understand. You love him. As do I."
Lucina once more refused to meet my eyes, when she spoke sadly, "Mother, I... Please, forgive me..."
Then I was beyond baffled when Lucina drew and then raised her Falchion against me. My eyes widened, and I cried out, "Lucina?!"
A hard look fell onto her face, and she yelled, "Stay where you are, Mother! I have no choice. I must kill you."
I yelled at Lucina, in anger, and hurt, "What?! What madness is this?!"
The hard look on her face softened slightly as she said slowly, "In my future, you... You kill Father.
I was beyond stunned. "No! That's insane! Why would I kill Chrom?"
"I was not certain myself, until now... I knew he had been killed by his closest friend. Having witnessed your bond with him, I doubted it could be so... But today's events make it clear. You are at Validar's mercy. I suspect it's he who forces you to take Father's life, and very soon." Lucina's face continued to harden again the more and more she spoke.
My face softening, I said gently, "Lucina, wait."
Her face then becoming that of one of determination, she said, "If Father is right, then we can change our fates. If this dark future is to be averted, sacrifices must be made." Pain showing in her eyes as she screamed, "I am sorry, Amara!" Quietly, yet, still determined, she continued, "I know that is matricide, I... I know that..."
"Lucina, you don't have to-" I tried to say calmly, but Lucina cut me off.
Her face became filled with pain. "Don't make it harder! It...will be swift and painless." Her face became determined once more. "If you hold any love for Father, then let this be done..."
I stared at my daughter, then resigning myself to my fate, I gave Lucina one final smile as I replied, "My life is yours. It always has been."
Lucina looked stunned, as she stammered out, "D-don't say that, Mother! Don't! That only...makes it harder."
I could only smile at her. "I would give my life for your father... And for you and your brother."
Lucina looked about ready to cry. "Mother, please..."
I closed my eyes, and kept the smile on my face as I said simply, "I know you will be quick about it." I took a deep breath, "I love you, Lucina."
"M-Mother..."
Steeling myself, keeping my eyes closed as to not look at her, for I knew if I did, I would break my resolve, I said calmly, "I'm ready. Do what you must."
"I... I..." I waited for the blow to come, but it never came. I heard metal clinging to the ground, and opened my eyes to see that Lucina had dropped her Falchion. Tears streaming down her cheeks, she cried out, "Damn me! I can't do it! I love you too much! I'm sorry, Mother. I'm so sorry! P-please forgive me!" And with that, she collapsed to the ground, sobbing.
I rushed to her side, and held her close as I told her, "My poor, sweet girl...there's nothing to forgive." We stayed just like that for a little while. Lucina sobbing, me holding her. Then finally, I made up my mind. "If anything, I should be asking for your forgiveness," I slowly detached myself from her, and stood.
Lucina looked up at me, startled, and her cheeks still wet. "M-Mother? Ask for my forgiveness? Whatever for? You've done nothing wrong."
I looked at her, sadly, and responded, "Yes I have. From what you've figured out, I kill your father, and from that act, the fell dragon is somehow revived. Also, I asked my own daughter, to slay her mother. Something I should've known, you could never do. From the time I've spent with you, I know that you love me every bit as much as you love your father. How could I ever ask my child, to choose between her mother, and her father?"
A river of tears flowing down her face as she stammered out, "M-Mother..."
I looked down at her, hardening my resolve. "Lucina, you're right. I'm a danger to your father, and to the safety of your future, and that's why," I drew the Brave Sword from it's sheath at my hip. "I will remove myself from the equation!"
Lucina stood quickly and shouted, "Mother! You can not-"
I cut her off as I looked at her with a face that I hopped was filled with all the love I had, and said softly, "Lucina, I love you. Please tell your father and brother, and everyone else, that I love them too." I lifted my sword, and adjusted it so that way is would face my heart. I whispered, "Goodbye."
And just a moment before I was going to stab myself in the heart, a booming voice split across the field, "No! I will NOT be slain by my own hand!" And just then, a flair of magic sent my sword flying out of my hands, and across the field. The force of the magic knocked me over, and as I looked up, I could see a dark figure standing over me.
~Chrom~
I was sitting in my tent, trying to do paper work, but my mind just wouldn't stop wandering. After all that's happened to us, for the Emblem to be stolen like that. It was baffling. After we had made it back to camp, I tried to comfort Amara, but she wouldn't hear of it. Simply saying that she wanted to take a walk, alone. Amara likes to take walks when she's down. It makes her feel better. However this time, I don't know if it will work. She just helped her father do something she didn't want to do. I know she's strong enough to be able to fight him, I believe in her. She just needs to believe in herself right now. And that's something, that I can't help her with.
I sighed and got up from my desk, walking over to a small chest in the corner of our shared tent. I opened it, and looked at the contents inside. Shifting through them, I looked at the many things inside. Not being able to wait until we could all go back home to Ylisstol, and deliver these items. They were all gifts, for Lucina. The baby Lucina, that was waiting for us back at the palace. If only there was time to make a trip back there. I just knew if Amara was able to hold our little girl, then she would get back all the faith in herself. But there just wasn't time. I promised myself, that once Amara got back to camp, if she was still in the dumps, I would make her go through all these items, and make her remember just why we are fighting: for our daughter.
Suddenly, the flaps of my tent were flung open, as someone rushed inside. I stood quickly, and saw that it was Tiki. She looked flustered. "Lady Tiki," I started. "Whatever is the matter?"
She looked at me, alarm flashing across her face that was usually so calm. "C-Chrom, I sense something very disturbing, and I thought to tell you of it straight away."
"Yes?" I prompted her. The normally calm and mellow Voice of Naga being so nervous, it made me curious, and worried, as to the matter.
She looked everywhere but me and replied, "It should be impossible, and yet, I sense what I sense. And my senses have never lied to me before." She took a deep breath, then looked me straight in the eyes declaring, "I sense: Grima."
My eyes widened in shock. "What?! How can that be?!"
Tiki shook her head. "I know not."
Regaining my composure, I asked her as calmly as I was able, "Are we in any danger at the moment? Can you tell how near the fell dragon is?"
Tiki stared at me, then replied, "He is not in our camp, or even within seeing distance of it. However, he is near by. And I fear-" she stopped suddenly and looked to the ground.
I ran to her and grabbed her shoulders. "You fear what? What's it that you fear?" My voice a bit harsher than it should be.
She looked up once more, and said with regret in her voice, "I fear, that this means something has happened to Amara."
My eyes widened, and my hands dropped from Tiki. I whispered, "Amara..." I narrowed my eyes and growled in anger, "As long as there is breath in my body, I will never allow anything to happen to my wife. Tiki, tell me in what direction he is, then gather everyone quickly. Find Frederick, and explain the situation quickly. If Grima is here, then we must defeat him quickly before any destruction can be wot by his presence." Tiki nodded, and then pointed in what direction she sensed Grima. I quickly grabbed Falchion, then darted out from my tent as quickly as my legs would carry me. The only thing running through my mind being a single thought. 'Hold on Amara, I'm coming.'
~Amara~
After a moment, I was able to see that the figure, was that person who looked like me back at Plegia. I stammered out, "Y-You! Who are you!?"
She stared at me with a cruel grin on her face, before she started to laugh maniacally. "Who am I? I told you, I am Amara. Or, perhaps to be more precise, the you that murdered Chrom. When this "Marth" of yours decided to come back in time... I came with her."
I could only stare dumbfounded at her, and asked, "Another version of me? But how...?"
She simply shrugged and replied with a sigh, "I can be quiet daft sometimes... It's really quite simple. I am you. Our only difference is the decisions we've made... Those vivid dreams you have- those are my memories. We share those memories because we share the same heart."
At this point, while I was still trying to process this information, Lucina spoke up. "Then, you ARE my mother?" She appeared stunned, then her face quickly turned to that which is one of rage. She picked up her Falchion, stood up, and raised it against the woman who had given birth to her. She screamed, "Explain yourself! Why did you kill Father!? Why WOULD you kill him!? I thought you loved him. And me, and my brother! Why have you never come back home!? Mother, answer me!"
She laughed once more, then replied simply, "Because I chose to follow my destiny. I chose godhood over my pathetic band of servants. I am no longer the doting mother you once knew. I am more, so much more. I am the wings of despair and the breath of ruin. I am the fell dragon, Grima. I believe the last time we met, child of Naga, was when I took down the last of the Shepherds. When I butchered the divine dragon's Voice in our time."
Anger, rage, and hurt could all be heard in Lucina's voice as she spoke. "That was you?"
The cruel smile on h-GRIMA'S face, getting wider as she responded, "Indeed. I was hoping to end your life, but I had rid myself of a pest all the same."
Lucina seemed speechless at this point, and that's when I managed to stammer out, "Wh-what?! I'M Grima? I'M the fell dragon?!"
Grima looked back down at me. "Indeed. Grima's soul slept within me, and in turn, sleeps within you. The Grimleal had worked for generations to create someone like you. A worthy vessel for me, your master. Simply having my blood in your veins is not enough... Validar was not worthy, nor was his father, or his father before him. However you? You were perfect. The proof, is that you bare my brand upon your right hand."
"N-no..."
"If only Validar's damnable wife hadn't been seized by weakness and fear... She betrayed everything my worshipers stand for. She stole you from the crib, and fled with you into the night. You could have been SO much more prepared to receive my blessings. Ah, but the past, is in the past. All that is left, is for our future." Grima reached down his hand, offering it to me. "Come with me to the Dragon's Table, and there, you can revel in your destiny!"
I just stared at the hand. I barely heard Lucina scream, "DAMN YOU!" She then rushed forward, and tried to strike Grima with her sword.
Grima barley even spared her a glance as he said, "Pffft, please." Then with his free hand threw a spell her way that sent her flying.
Hearing her scream finally broke me out of my shock. "LUCINA!" I screamed. Standing up, I ran over to where she had fallen. Sitting her up and taking her hand, I desperately asked her, "Lucina! Honey, are you okay?!"
She looked at me with a face full of emotions and managed out weakly, "I'll live."
I turned my head around sharply to glare at Grima. I opened my mouth to yell at him, when he said, "Oh, would you look at that." I looked past where Grima was standing, and saw Chrom running towards us. I heard him laugh as he said, "Oh, nothing will pleasure me more than killing him again. Mwaaa ha ha ha ha HA HA HA HA!"
The she raised her hand towards him, and started charging another spell. "CHROM!" I quickly put Lucina down, and ran towards him, pulling my Thoron tome out, and quickly charging up a spell. Just as Grima released the spell, my Thoron was ready, and I shot to intercept the bolt of magic Grima had thrown at Chrom. My spell managed to intercept Grima's just in time, though, Chrom got swallowed up in the cloud that the explosion created. I quickly rushed in looking for him, calling his name. Then, just as the smoke started to dissipate, I found him. He was knocked down, but other wisely, alright. "Chrom, thank the gods you're alright," I cried as I hugged him.
He hugged me back, and replied softly, "I could say the same to you." Then the smoke finished dissipating.
I heard Lucina cry out in relief, and the rest of the Shepherds make their way into the clearing. Then Grima yelled in frustration, "Damn you! I wanted to savor killing Chrom all over again!"
You could practically hear all the Shepherds stiffen at that remark, and at the appearance of one who looked just like their beloved tactition and queen. Chrom looked over at her and said stunned, "That's- that's the woman you looks just like you."
Looking at Chrom, I told him, "Chrom, that IS me from Lucina's future."
You could hear every single one of the Shepherds crying out their own denials. All of the children had CLEARLY told everyone that none of the Shepherds in the future were alive. Chrom then stood and helped me up as well, looking at me carefully. Slowly, he said, "But, Amara, Lucina told us that everyone was dead in her future. How could she be you?"
I looked over at Grima, glaring, "Because, she- I am Grima, the fell dragon."
More exclamations across the field. "But Amara! How can you be Grima?"
I looked at him sadly, and pulled off the glove on my right hand, and showed him the mark that resided there. "Apparently, this is Grima's brand, as the exalt's brand is that of Naga's."
"Indeed." Tiki said as she walked up to Chrom and I, but not looking at us, but at Grima himself. She glared harshly at him, "I thought I sensed as such when I first met you, but I could not be certain until now." She turned to us and continued, "Chrom, Amara. The Shepherds must face off against Grima NOW. He will give us no chance to leave and fight again once we have performed the Awakening. Naga has told me as such. And, she also told me another piece of information. If we are to have any hope of defeating Grima, even in this weakened state, the only hope we have is if Amara is the one to deal the final blow."
"Shut UP you STUPID Voice of Naga!" Grima yelled from across the field. He came sprinting at her, and she simply used her dragonstone to pick him up, and throw him in the air. While it wouldn't immobilize him for more than a few seconds, it was just enough time to allow her to finish speaking. "For the only perchance power that could end Grima forever, and not just simply put him to sleep at the Awakening would do, 'TWOULD BE HIS OWN!"
Grima screamed as Tiki finished relaying Naga's message. Grima tried to fire a bolt of magic at her, but she simply blocked it with her wings, then sent him flying across the field with a kick. Frederick then spoke up, "He has to kill himself?"
My eyes widening in realization, "But, he would never do that of his own volition. However, I AM Grima, before he has been officially brought back to the world. So, logically, I should be able to kill him!"
Tiki looked down at me. I could see that her eyes were sad, as if there was something left unsaid, however, she simply replied with, "Yes. That should be the case according to the divine dragon." I already knew what it was that she left unsaid.
I looked up at my husband's face. "Chrom, let us fight just one more battle together. As husband and wife, let us fight together once more."
He laughed happily, kissed me, then exclaimed, "Then we can finally live in a world filled with peace." He turned to face everyone. He shouted, "Shepherds! You know what to do!" And the loud battle cry of the Shepherds roared over the field, and we made ready for battle.
~Chrom~
As I readied Falchion, and handed Amara a spare Levin sword from our Convoy, I said to with determination, "This is it! Our final battle! You're one of us, Amara, and no 'destiny' can change that. Now let's kill this dastard and be done with it!"
I watched Amara as she nodded her head and said equally as determined, "Right!"
The Shepherds all ran across the field, ready to kill the fell dragon that reeked havoc upon the future that our children came from. We all moved according to how Amara directed us, and she and I were in the front of the barrage. Grima had summoned a hoard of Risen to the field to block our path, but we started to cut them down one, by one. Lissa, Lon'qu, and Gerome all made their way over to where Lucina was still laying on the ground. Amara had ordered Lissa to go over there to heal Lucina, Lon'qu was accompanying his wife as protection, and there was no way you could keep Gerome away from his girlfriend, especially when she was injured. I made no effort to paying attention to the others now, as I had a Risen swordsman right in my face. I dodged the blow he threw at me, then countered with a swing from Falchion, and Amara finished it off with a zap from her Levin sword. I nodded at her, and gave her a quick smile. And she, in turn, returned the small gesture, and then we continued on.
The battle wore on, and we finally made leeway through the mass of Risen. Morgan and his girlfriend Nah actually made it to where they were facing off against Grima him(her?)self. Amara and I nodded at each other, and Amara gave the order to the rest of the Shepherds to finish off the Risen. By the time we reached where Morgan and Nah were fighting Grima, they had gotten him to a knee. I looked to Amara, and cried, "Amara! This is our chance!" And then she started casting her final spell.
Grima looked startled, and shouted, "WHAT...WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"
Amara, with a whimsical look on her face, stated calmly, "For once, I'm glad you and I are the same. Now I can give my life to protect those I care for..."
In pure anger, Grima shouted, "YOU WOULD...NOT DARE!"
I just stared at her baffled at her last statement. "A-Amara?"
She ignored us both and continued speaking. "I would and I will. The evils you would visit on this world are unthinkable... In some way, I-we share the blame. It's only right we meet our end together!"
Grima shouted in rage, "NOOOOOOO!"
I started, "Amara! What are you-?"
And then Amara flung the magic she had been casting at Grima. In a voice that sounded much more like the Amara I love, I heard Grima say softly, "At last...I can die... No one else...will suffer...because of me... Thank...you... I hope your lives are...filled...with...joy... My children...and...everyone else...too... Please forgive me... I put you through...so...much..." Then she took a few staggering steps backwards, and disappeared into the black fog she was admitting.
Then, Amara started giving off the exact same black fog, and I knew, that she was about to disappear soon as well. "Amara! No!" I shouted desperately.
She looked back at me, a smile, lit upon her face. "Thank you, Chrom. For...everything... Tell the others...my last thoughts were of them... May we meet again, in a better life, my love..."
I fought to keep the tears from my eyes as I shouted, "Amara! No! Ah gods, NO!"
And with that, she raised a hand to wave goodbye to me, and disappeared from my life. Seemingly forever.
And with that, everyone gathered around, and I explained what it was that just happened here. About how now, Amara was gone. That she gave herself up, so that our world would never again be plagued by the fell dragon. Morgan and Lucina wouldn't stop crying at the fact that their beloved mother was gone. Everyone else, that they lost their valued friend. I myself, kept my tears stored away, for now. A leader shouldn't appear weak in front of everyone in times like this. All that was left before this war was finally ended, was that we needed to get the Fire Emblem back from Validar. However, the hard part, was finished. There would be nothing left that Validar could do, and though he would probably resist, he couldn't fight us now. It was a bittersweet victory, and no one felt like celebrating.
It was at this point that Tiki came up to me and said, "Naga did say, one more thing: that because Amara's ties are strong in this world, there is a slim chance that she may have survived, just, somewhere else in this world."
I nodded in gratitude to Tiki, then said, "This isn't over everyone. I believe Amara is out there...somewhere... And I'll find her. If it takes me the rest of my days, I'll find her..."
Everyone present all said something about Amara: her character, her presence, her personality, or the fact that they were sure we'd meet her again.
"Amara has secured for us all the most precious gift: a future. Now it falls upon our shoulders to protect what was given. I vow to give my all to healing the damage this war has wrought upon the realm. When Amara returns, I want her to see what her sacrifice bought. Amara...if you can hear me... You will always have a place here with us. Remember that. Always. My love."
Not long after, we went and defeated Validar and his Grimleal, and reclaimed the stolen Fire Emblem. We all then returned to Ylisstol together, and started the rebuilding process. After a little while, people eventually started going on their separate ways, to start building their respective lives together with their spouses. The children, leaving sooner than the adults, presumably, to not interfere with the way everyone developed their lives, and raised their counter parts. Lucina, Morgan, and their spouses had stayed behind a little longer, waiting to see their mother one last time before they vanished as well. However, one day, they were gone from the palace, seemingly having given up in waiting for their mother to return.
Years passed, and still nothing. Then one day, when I was taking a stroll outside of the palace with Lissa, in a field full of lilies, we found someone laying unconscious on the ground. For a while, we just stared at her.
~Amara~
Everything thing was dark and blurry, but after a moment, I heard a familiar voice saying, "Chrom, we have to do SOMETHING."
Then another voice that made my heart leap replied, "What do you propose we do?
Just then, my eyesight finally started coming into focus, and Lissa said, "I... I dunno..."
Then they both looked down, and noticed that I was conscious, and they both sighed in relief. They both leaned over me, and Chrom said, "I see you're awake now."
Lissa nodded her head and softly said, "Hey there!"
I nodded lightly back to her, the diverted my attention back to Chrom, as he started speaking again. "There're better places to take a nap than on the ground, you know." He gave me a slight smile, then held out his hand. "Give me your hand."
I took it, and the second before me pulled up, I noticed how Grima's brand, was no longer on my hand. I'm free. "Welcome back. It's over now."
