Disclaimer: I do not own Final Fantasy VII, or Cloud and Zack, I only own the plot.
This came to me while watching a Zack/Cloud Video. Oh and also after watching Advent Children. That little boy made my laugh, really.
Cloud wondered the streets aimlessly, it was raining. Cloud was suddenly over come by flashes of memories of Zack. Damn rain. Always when it rained, he would be taken back to that place, to that day.
No he wouldn't think of it, he couldn't, it hurt too much and he couldn't go through it, not again. Cloud walked faster, the faster he was out of the rain the faster the memories would go. Reaching his front door, Cloud fumbled in his pockets looking for his keys, the rain was getting heavier the memories were coming faster. When he found his key, he quickly went inside, slamming the door. Breathing heavily he moved into his living room and sank into his couch. He picked up his TV remote and flicked through the channels not really paying attention to what was on the screen.
Sometime later, Cloud had fallen asleep on the couch, the television still on. "Cloud" came a voice. Cloud ignored it.
"Cloud!"
Still Cloud ignored the voice. The voice seemed to get irritated at Clouds blatant attempts to ignore it.
"Spike wake up!"
Cloud bolted upright, only one person called him that. He looked around, and sure enough, there was Zack on the arm of his couch facing him.
"Zack, how?"
Zack grinned cockily. "Hey this is me, you're talking to, I can do anything"
Cloud tried to smile back, but found he couldn't. Zack sighed.
"Cloud when are you going to stop blaming yourself?"
Cloud went to say he didn't, but his words got caught in his throat, and Zack raised his eyebrows. "Don't deny it I may be dead but I'm not stupid, I can see it in your eyes and I've been watching you, torturing yourself for something that couldn't have been avoided"
Cloud suddenly found his voice again. "It IS my fault, I could've done something, anything, but I didn't, and you- you died" Cloud felt a lump in his throat. Zack laughed and Cloud looked at him, Zack smiled.
"Do you know how depressing you make my death sound? And you're right it is your fault, your fault that I didn't die sooner! You saved my life once, and you should never forget that. I died the way I wanted, Cloud, I died in battle and with you by my side during my final moments"
Cloud stared at him, Zack smiled warmly "I'm happy Cloud" he said fading away.
"I'm happy"
Cloud watched Zack fade completely and smiled for the first time in months.
