Chapter 1 ~ Future Test
The wind blew a gain on the top of the mountain as the young woman tested
the courage of the young boy. Her eyes flickered with anger as the
snowstorm rose higher, stronger and colder. The young boy held his breath
and braced himself for the final onslaught of her anger. His feet were
planted in the snow but still he was bieng pushed back slowly. He trudged
forward, facing the snowstorm, his eyes watering with stinging cold pain.
Frostbite claimed his feet and hands but still he pushed on. It is nearly
over, it is nearly over, he kept repeating to himself for the hours that he
was fighting to stay alive. Then there was a clap of her hands and it all
stopped.
The boy still stood, his eyes not moving from the woman as she walked over to him, her eyes blaring with anger and her long cloak blowing steadily behind her. "Boy, you have passed my test of courage," she told him, watching his face. The boy sighed in relief and collapsed onto the ground, clutching his body in pain, most parts of him were covered in frostbite. Then all at once the pain was gone, he looked up to the woman in suprise, he did not know her powers exceeded those he knew already. He did not know she even had the suprising healer abilities!
She towered over him, then all at once, the wind totally stopped and the rage left the womans eyes, she smiled. "You underestimate my power Tom, this is your chance to go. In the village, past the Lands of Wilderness, is a young child, she is my ancestor, she is now 10 years of age. You will retrieve her and bring her to this exact place, on this exact day in exactly 5 years."
The boy opened his mouth to argue but he chose not to. This would be his last and final test, he did not dare to dissobey the woman, his newest and last master of the arts. So instead he nodded. The woman grinned, "This will be the last time i will see you for 5 years. This girl will not know me but instead she will know her birthmark that is inherited in our family. You will know it also." She put her hands around her neck to unbuckle a necklace and she gave it to the young boy. On the front it showed a symbol. The eye of the raven, the woman's family symbol, one of the last pure blooded families left, he ravens. He wondered why her ancestor would be away from her but the boy dared not ask.
"This is my family birthmark, you will know the girl if she has this on her skin," the woman told the boy, who was still staring at the necklace piece and thinking. "Go now," the woman snapped suddenly, suprised that she had taken this long to explain.
The young boy jumped unexpectedly and nodded. He thought about asking her how he would know the girl, what she looked like, how old she would be, but he decided not to. The wrath of this woman, his newest master, was unbearable pain. So he turned and ran into the forest nearby to grab his horse. He mounted and galloped off as far away from the moutain top that he could get. "Only in 5 years," he spoke to himself, "Will I ever return to the mountain called Osiris..."
