Web of Lies
By Karma queen
She had tried to move on, surrounding herself with lies, almost believing them herself. But her heart spoke differently. And here she was now, heartbroken all over again. It was worse this time though; she had only herself to blame, and only her guilt to comfort her; no strong arms to protect and comfort her. She had known deep down all along that it wouldn't have worked out. They just weren't made for each other like some thought.
He changed a long time ago, for her. He was different, for her. He stopped being so possessive, because he had had her. The thoughts did nothing to lift her spirits. He still wanted to be with her, begging her not to throw their love away, but she couldn't live life like she had been. She couldn't keep deluding herself that things would work out in the end. So she ended it. She had thought she loved him, but it was clear to her now that she never had. There were too many problems and one too many people in the way.
She hadn't immediately 'fallen' for him. It had taken quite a while. For the longest time, all she could feel towards him was annoyance and frustration. Sure, he'd been sweet, but at the time she hadn't been deluding herself into thinking she didn't love another. She had, though; at the time been deluding herself into thinking the one she loved didn't love another. (A/N: It seems confusing, but you'll get it later if you haven't already)
Times had been rough, what with hunting after the shards taking up most of her time, almost all of it, in fact. When they'd got together, it had been after the jewel was completed and purified, and Naraku had been killed. But even then, it had been a while, since the wish she made to purify the jewel still haunted her. She'd thought she'd gotten over it, but she'd only masked it and shoved the thought out of the way, just as she'd done with the so-called acceptance of it. Sango and Miroku hadn't been fooled, no matter what she said or did to try and convince them.
In the end, she made the biggest mistake of her life, and accepted Kouga's offer. Every time he kissed her, every time he held her, she imagined it was someone else holding her. It was only after many months of lying to him, and to herself, that she understood how big she'd messed up. Her heart belonged to another, even after he'd unknowingly ripped it out and tore it up into pieces.
She had used the jewel to wish for Inuyasha's happiness with Kikyo. Kikyo was made human, and Inuyasha had chosen her.
Kagome had chosen Kouga, despite the love she felt for Inuyasha which would never disappear, and never be reciprocated. But now she had dumped Kouga, and was on her own, and alone. She reached the Bone Eater's well to find nothing had changed. She started chanting a spell Kaede-sama had taught her should the need to close the well ever arise, if the dangers of the past threatened the future. A bright pink glow encased the well and surrounding area before slowly fading, but not disappearing, somewhat cloaking it from youkai.
She took one last look around her, inhaling the clean air of the Feudal Era before she closed her eyes and jumped into the well, never to return.
