This is crazy short, I know. But, I had to write something after that episode. (Shakes fist screaming, "Meredith!"). It was actually supposed to be a tad bit darker, but the story kind of took over itself.

Disclaimer: I don't own Castle, Andrew Marlowe does.

Enjoy!

As her boyfriend talks, the detective just stares into space trying to keep the words from playing, but to no avail. The same words play like a broken record over and over in her mind and she cannot get rid of them. She wants too, oh how she longs to, but as anyone who has ever been in contact with the red head have all figured out, Meredith is a hard woman to say, "No" to.

A question is directed to the detective and she realizes she must have said something right because Rick is smiling. Forcing a smile of her own, the woman goes to sit at the bar. Castle starts gathering the ingredients he needs and Kate simply sits and watches. He starts with the eggs first and with each crack of the shell and sizzle of the yolk, the woman wonders if getting to understand any facet of her partner's mind is that easy. One crack is all it takes, right?

The agent shakes her head knowing in no way was getting to know someone as easy as it looks. She is the prime example in this case. It took more than a simple crack against a pan for her to open up to anyone, let alone herself. Kate watches as chocolate chips are added. Trying not to gag, she wonders if there is a reason the man in front of her is so reserved. She knew he had problems, they all did. But, what if his are ones she cannot handle? What if they are so revolting she runs?

She cannot run though. Richard Castle is her lifeline. He has seen her ugly side. But, that is the problem. He knows what is wrong with her, but she in no way knows what is wrong with him. Sure, his ranting about Alexis wearing a scantily clad warrior outfit is one side of him, the fatherly one. But what father would not show that side at some point? What bothers her is the fact that he has a whole other side, one she has no idea about.

Realizing her partner has been speaking for the past while she decides it would probably be beneficial to her if she listens. The detective catches snippets of what he is saying as the writer adds marshmallows and graham cracker, but soon, the woman has tuned out again. The man is explaining the intricacies of his dish: how it tastes, what it should taste like. To the detective, however, she could care less. He made an omelet with chocolate chips and marshmallows. Anyone could do that. But, as her partner places the smorelete in front of her, she realizes she has something she has never tried before.

Now, with a fixed smile on her face, Kate Beckett bravely tries the breakfast food knowing that just like her relationship, she needs to take things one bite at a time.
