They had finally found what they had been looking for out in that frozen wasteland, and after a couple days preparing for the trip and acquiring transport, the two of them set out for Gamma Base, a military instillation dedicated to the research of bio-mechanical augmentations.
The drive out to the base was a long one, and the base itself was situated in the middle of nowhere, so getting lost was easy, and scenery was nonexistent. Oh, and yeah, it was cold, glaciers tend to do that.
But aside from the cold and the fact that they were probably lost, Carolina and Church were doing rather well keeping themselves entertained. They had worked their way down from talking, to eye-spy, all the way down to philosophical questions. Church got to go first.
"You ever wonder why we're here?" Church asked, his hologram taking a seat on Carolina's shoulder.
"Well, what do you mean? Here as in, we're on this planet; or here as in, we exist?" Carolina answered the question with a question, wanting him to elaborate.
"...Both, I suppose." He said with a shrug.
Carolina sighed, and remained silent, concentrating on her driving as she swerved to avoid some debris that had somehow made its way onto the ice, letting the question sit in her mind.
"Yeah, I guess I do...It's not like it matters though. I'm here, and I have a job to do." She said with conviction.
"...True enough." He replied, nodding.
"What about you? You ever wonder why you're here?" She asked, turning her head towards him for a moment before looking back at the road.
"Nope." He said simply, shaking his head from side to side.
"Asshole."
Needless to say, the ride to Gamma base was far from boring.
