An aggitated, frustrated sigh escaped her lips. Weeks of working out had proved absolutely useless. That always seemed to happen. Whenever she started to lose weight, she gained it back a week later.

Alice flopped down on her couch. Her hair feel around her shoulders, put down for once. Alice ran her hands through it sadly. She knew she shouldn't let the stupid frog's words get to her but when the talk turned to Alfred she just couldn't help it.

The blonde had seen pictures of American models. She knew she hardly looked like any of them. The reasons for Alfred ever wanting to be with her were difficult to understand. Sure, she had the plus of a foreign English accent, but she didn't have anything close to the body of an American model.

Maybe she was just the only nation who would date him. Maybe Alfred was just doing it for fun. Maybe Alfred was secretly making fun of her.

Alice glanced across the room at the clock. Said clock told her that she was supposed to meet Alfred for their date in an hour. Picking up the nearby phone she dialed Alfred's number. She couldn't bare facing him, not tonight.

"You've reached the voicemail of the most awesome country alive no matter what Prussia says. I'm to busy being the awesome hero I am, so if you leave a message, I'll try to fit you in."

England sighed. "I'm going to have to miss our date tonight, Alfred. Work came up. I'll talk to you at a later time then."

Alice set the phone back on the cradle, and she leaned back on the couch in favor of staring up at the ceiling. She had never cared to a large degree how she looked before. Now the bloody American made her completely self-consious.

Using the excuse of unexpected work, Alice pulled out a small tub of ice cream from the freezer. Alfred had snuck it into the cart last time they'd gone grocery shopping. Normally she would have left it for Alfred, but tonight nothing looked more appealing or appetizing.

Alice curled up on her sofa before the television with her ice cream. She flipped through the stations until she found a sappy romance movie on. Halfway through the movie the carton of ice cream had been discarded on the table. No doubt it would leave a sticky mess that she'd have to clean up in the morning.

"This looks like work all right. How exactly does this relate to rising polictical tension?" no other than America asked. "Oh, I get it," he said slipping his arms around the already startled Englishwoman. "I'm the dashing Leanardo DiCaprio and you're the very beautiful Kate Winslet, right?"

"A very fat Kate Winslet," Alice answered bluntly. She huffed as she pulled her knees closer to her chest. Normally she wouldn't burden anyone with her own problems, but she was feeling particularly undefended at the moment.

"Alice," Alfred drawled quietly. "Is that why you cancelled our date?" Alice nodded miserably. Alfred chuckled in that gentle way of hir as he pulled the older nation closer. "You're beautiful."

"No, I'm not," Alice grumbled miserably.

"I'm the most awesome country alive," Alfred said. "I'm obviously not with you for your cooking skills, so why else would I be dating you? Besides you're the smartest nation I know. I also love how strong you are. I'm the hero and all so I get to protect you anyway, but you're pretty strong without me, I guess."

Alice meant to snap at Alfred, but instead ended up kissing him lightly. "I suppose that was a compliment in some weird American way."

Maybe, just a little bit, she was pretty after all.
