Occasionally, on days like this Sakura let her guard down.
When she sat alone in the field where she used to come when she was little. Where numerous times she had picked flowers with Ino, or had a picnic with Team 7.
But now no one ever came to the field.
Maybe because it was a reminder of everything that had happened. Or maybe it was just because they were all so busy. Training, becoming stronger, working towards their goals.
But every so often, Sakura liked to come here, on early mornings. Right before it was considered dawn, but couldn't quite be night time anymore. When the sky still held some stars but shone with a light blue glow.
She would lay in the soft, sweet smelling grass and reminisce past memories, the happy ones, the sad ones. Tears would glisten in her eyes, but would not fall.
'No, not anymore.' she told herself.
Although she told herself that, it still hurt. No matter what, it still hurt. Maybe it would always hurt, that hole in her chest that Sasuke had made when he left.
She missed him, maybe a little too much, and a little too often. And everyday that he wasn't there, she missed him just a little more.
She worried about him. But most of all, she worried that she would forget him.
What if one day she couldn't remember exactly what he looked like? How he smirked or how his voice sounded when he gave his trademark 'Hn'.
But as they say, "Love is never lost. If not reciprocated, it will flow back and soften and purify the heart."
The stars started to twinkle out and gave way to the pink-orange glow that came before the sun. And it was time for Sakura to head back.
So she would withdraw the hand that would unconsciously clench her chest, where the gaping hole was, and stand up.
She look to the sky once more, sending a silent prayer for Sasukes' safety and return, and she would leave the field.
She had training today, just like everyday.
Because she had to get stronger.
If not, she wouldn't be able to help Naruto bring back the boy she loved. And then the hole in her heart might never fill, and that scared her.
But she wouldn't give up so easily.
She was strong, and she'd get stronger.
No matter what.
Her heart depended on it.
Well, I was feeling a bit down, for no reason really, and decided that I wanted to try a shot at a, somewhat, Sasuke/Sakura story.
It's short, it's not that great, but it would be lovely if you were to review.
By the way, I used three quotes, two in the story and one for the story summary. They aren't mine, I don't know who wrote them, but they are theirs. And Naruto, regretfully, isn't mine either.
Thanks! I hoped you enjoyed!
