Mai: Tori does not own Ghost hunt.

"You know, I like you." Oliver frowned internally.

This girl really confused him, and made him act out of character.

All logic simply went out the window where she was concerned.

She argued with him better than Lin had, and had provoked him more that Gene had, managing to get under his skin. S

he bounced back from frightening experiences faster than a thought, and had powerful psychic powers.

Hell, Gene, his twin, hadn't been able to make him lose control over his powers.

"...Pride means nothing when others do it for you, GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEAD!"

the shout rang out in the cave, echoing slightly off the stone walls.

The girl glared at him; cinnamon eyes ablaze with barely suppressed anger. Her hair was ruffled slightly from the attacks from the spirits, and there were scratches on her arms.

"Point taken." The reply came as cold and as harsh as a midwinter blizzard.

The girl simply spun around and went to help her injured teammates.

"Come on guys, let's go." Oliver stood staring at the okubu*, rage building up inside him. His mind was trying to control it, but it was fighting a losing battle.

"I'm sorry I let you down." Takigawa rasped, but Oliver hardly heard him.

He started to gather a golden aura as his power begged to be set free.

He dimly heard Lin shouting, but couldn't catch the words.

I don't need to be lectured by a sixteen year old on pride!

Noll grasped his hand; centring the power. Raising his hand up, he sliced it down, as if wielding a sword.

Flight.

Hit.

Explosion.

There was silence behind him.

"Let's go." Oliver barely made it out of the cave before he stopped breathing.

Mai was crying, Oliver could tell.

His fingers itched to wipe away the tears and to hold her tight.

But that was an irrational and foolish thought in itself.

He was leaving for England; resuming his life as Dr. Oliver Davis, and Mai liked someone else.

Still, he would miss Japan; miss being Kazuya Shibuya, CEO of Shibuya Psychic Research.

But it was still a bit painful to be in the same country where his twin had died.

Eugene.

Killed in a hit-and-run accident; the lowest sort of murder.

Then, his body had been dumped in a lake. The divers had found it this morning.

Oliver shut the book he was reading with a sigh. The words had started to blur, and he found himself replaying what had happened a few hours ago.

"I just said that I don't like it when people care about me." Oliver rolled his eyes.

Why couldn't this girl pay attention and listen?

"Idiot, that's not what I meant!" Oliver was confused. Then what...?

"Jeez, you're so slow. I meant... I like you, in a very special way."

Oliver finally clicked, only to be hit with a pang in his gut.

What can I say? That I like her too? Does she really like me?

His scientific mind was short-circuiting with this new information.

Oliver was built for making important scientific discoveries, not dealing with hormones.

His brother, however, would have been all over this, whispering endearments and looking deep into her eyes.

Oliver was not his brother, no matter how alike they looked.

Me...or Gene? We do look that same, and she has been seeing him in her dreams. That must be it. She's used to seeing Gene smiling at her, not the other Davis twin.

The answer to his slight dilemma presented itself suddenly, a stroke of pure genius. He hated himself for saying it, but knew that it was necessary.

Mai would move on, and Oliver would leave for England, trying to forget all that had happened.

"Me...Or Gene?"
