I didn't know what happiness was until I met her.
It has been over a century since my brothers an I fought in a raging war with our father. Even speaking of him send chills down my spine. Why?
Because he was a monster. He murdered billions of men and bathe in their blood. He had brought nothing but misery and destruction during his reign. My mother, the queen had had enough of his terror and sent her children to kill her husband.
In the end, my siblings and I face on the challenge and ended our father's miserable control of our lands and the crown was split into four. I was the eldest, they had looked up to me more and crowned me the Ruler of Lands.
Being king brought its advantages in many ways. But it had always felt desolated. True that many women flock over us, but only to the purpose of getting gold and riches; to be Queen. They had never felt the need to be of loyalty but only royalty. I am a ruler, people hate me. I was cursed with despair and hatred among my people. Nothing and no one is trustable, only my blood-related.
Because of that, I had hid myself in the castle for years. I gave the duties of public service to my brothers, while I took the job of doing paper work. They had find it fair since reading and signing papers were a hassle.
That was when I met her. Her name was Xion Ahern, my assistant at first. She was the only one that made me feel unique and loved. Her very existance changed me and my perspective of peasants. She was kind to me, and she never judged me for who I am. She was logical, and beautiful.
Everyday, I would escape to the library to see her. Xion would always greet me with her radiant smile. She would crack up jokes and made me laugh. I had never laughed this much before I found her. Even if she knew the real me, she still believed I have hope.
"You are a good king, my lord. I just wish that others could see you the way I do." She whispered sadly as she shelved the books.
"As long as I have you, that'll be enough for me." I smiled back. She was my guardian angel, I wanted her for myself. I had asked her to marry me, she would always turn me down. I bribed her with benefits to being queen, she will always say no.
"Find someone else, someone royal. It'll be too selfish for a commoner like me to have you." She said, holding onto my hand. I hate it when she said she was selfish, that wasn't true. She was perfect, she was a goddess of purity.
But years passed, she never told me of her sickness. The seasons come and gone, her life slowly ticked away. And with that thought, here I am sitting next to her hospital bed. Her soft voice barely reaching my ear canals, her body temperature ever so slowly started to decrease. I held onto her hand, hoping that it'll be the only thing to keep her alive.
My heart ached as she whispered her last words to me, "I love you." But even when she is broken, her smile was still as beautiful as the heavens above. She wasn't just a commoner, she was and forever will be my love. Xion Ahern, the maiden that managed to make a man as devastated like me happy.
But now, she is gone. My happiness died along with her. As the rain pattered against the gigantic window in the library, I can't help but feel lonely.
"I wouldn't have known what loneliness was until I met her."
I know I have been gone for awhile now.
But here's a VanShi short to calm you all down. As always, I hope that you enjoy and please review!
