CHAPTER 1: THE SECOND STAR TO THE RIGHT

This is a story about a family. It is also about a magical nanny and a boy who refuses by all means to grow up and a wicked witch and pirates and singing chimney sweeps and fairies and a star but mostly about a family. You probably know who these people are. Or you think you do. If you heard this story was about a magical nanny, a wicked witch and singing chimney sweeps you've probably guessed this story is about the Banks family of number 17 Cherry Tree Lane. Or if you heard this was about a boy who refuses by all means to grow up, pirates, and fairies you'd think this story was about the Darling family. It is about neither and both. You see after their encounter with Mary Poppins Jane and Michael Banks grew into adults. What became of Michael? As you remember at the end of her story Mary Poppins gave him a telescope for astronomy. It turned out she also gave him a destiny. Michael became Professor Michael Banks of Cambridge University. Because of that title we will call him Professor Banks throughout this story so he won't be confused with his nephew Michael Darling. What about Jane? What became of her? Well if what I have just said hasn't already answered the question: She married a man named George Darling and had three children Wendy, John and Michael. As you remember from Peter Pan's story when Wendy was twelve, John was nine, and Michael was almost seven they flew away with him and traveled to Neverland and brought back the Lost Boys for their mother to adopt. This is the story Wendy, John, Michael, the Lost Boys, Mrs. Darling, Mr. Darling, Professor Banks, Mr. Banks, Mrs. Banks, and their quest that made them a family.
