Author's note: You know the deal. All characters and the novels 'Twilight' and 'New Moon' are created by and belong to the great Stephenie Meyer. I can only bow to her greatness, and try to appease the dancing penguins in my head that write these scenes.
I had always known the Cullens were incredibly graceful. They were almost too beautiful to look at when they moved – their steps were fluid, elegant. Even Emmett moved as if he weighed nothing. But Alice was the most graceful of the family, her bounding steps resembling those of a dancer – confident, dainty at times, but always poised. At times, I tried to mimic her movements, hoping that if I could capture even one hundredth of her poise, I'd be able to walk on a flat surface without harming myself. I could never measure up to Alice, but I didn't hate her for it.
I remember seeing Alice dance. Edward was sitting at his piano, playing "Clair de Lune" for me. Alice was standing in the doorway, her body swaying slightly. Before I knew it, she was in the middle of the room, spinning in circles, performing moves that even the best ballerinas would struggle with. Edward segued into another song, with a faster tempo. Alice spun faster, until she was a blur of black hair and porcelain skin. Somehow she noticed my awed expression, and laughed aloud, leaping across the room to pick me up off the couch. Alice twirled around the perimeter of the room, with me in her arms, as Edward laughed.
"Alice!" I yelled. "I'm starting to get dizzy!"
We collapsed on the couch, Alice still giggling. I looked at her, and was struck by how happy she seemed when she danced. "Alice," I started. "Have you ever taken ballet lessons?"
Alice shook her head, pieces of her hair falling into her eyes. "Once," she admitted. "When we were in Paris. But the instructor asked me leave after 3 hours."
"Why?" I asked, astounded that anyone would want any of the Cullens to leave their presence.
Edward chuckled, and came to join us on the couch. "Because Alice made the poor instructor look incompetent," he stated as Alice ducked her head. "She put the entire school to shame."
"I can only imagine," I said, watching as Alice moved fluidly from the couch and leapt gracefully into the next room.
