Kaito's eyes wandered over the empty bed where Haruto used to lie. Back when Faker, no his father, was still a force to be dealt with. As simple as it would be to just shove it all out of his mind, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt. He was old enough, he should have been able to put the pieces together by now. All of it made sense, and if he had just calmed down for a moment he could have maybe, just maybe, made it so everyone got out of there alive.
His hands felt cold. Colder than they usually did. He had been putting off resting a while longer, the throbbing throughout his body somehow felt comfortable in the light of the rising sun. Every time he shut his eyes, the screams of his younger brother, and the coaxing words of his father clanged eerily in his mind. He should have been able to tell. His father...was just trying to protect him, in his own, skewed little way. Making himself to be a villain, not trusting Kaito with the real task
Now there was nothing left for him to do but wait. He was suppose to be resting, but knowing how worse things were going to be kept his eyes dilated. Fear perhaps. Some kind of unpleasant feeling that made his entire entity quake with soreness. Rest would be fine, but there was still much to do. Rest would be fine, but what if they tried to hurt the only thing that mattered. They. They had to be dealt with. Narrowing his eyes, Kaito turned away from the bed to meet the darting, furious eyes of Haruto.
"Nii-san, what are you still doing here?" Kaito couldn't speak, He just realized how much taller Haruto had grown. He was nearly up to Kaito's neck. It was a strange sight...but even more so was the burning anger that was held tight in his brothers eyes. "Haruto...you should be resting-" he began, his words tired, and slightly pleading. It was too much for his heart right now. "Y-you don't think I worry about you?" Haruto eyes softened for a moment. After all his brother had been through He just wanted him to rest for a while longer. But as he readily knew, Kaito wouldn't listen to logic. No, his brother was too brash to listen right now, and tired enough for Haruto to lead him to sit down.
"Not after you try and rest..." taking the others hand gently, Haruto smiled at his brother, and held him close. Kaito felt relief course through his body as he realized the memories of Haruto's smile were nothing like the genuine one. A sheepish grin spread across his face for a moment, as he allowed his eyes to shut for a moment. So it would be alright for a while longer. Just a while longer, maybe for now, he could spend a bit of time with Haruto. The real Haruto. Soon after, Haruto looked up to his brother who was breathing softly now. He looked at peace for a change. Standing up and digging in his pockets, Haruto placed a single caramel into Kaito's sleeping hand and left his brother to rest. Maybe later they could duel together, or visit Chris. Maybe another time.
