True story: While in the middle of writing this, out of nowhere, a Souja Boy song comes on iTunes and COMPLETELY throws me off. I lost my train of thought and everything. I don't even listen to Soulja Boy!

Anyway, this is my first Legend of Korra fic. In fact, this is my first fic in the Avatar universe! I decided to do Lin, simply because she's my favorite character! So, enjoy~

Lin blinked against the sun while walking out of the police station. She just turned in her official resignation. She felt, odd, to say the least. As a kid, she always wanted to be the Chief of Police, just like her mom. She never imagined she be quitting. Even if it was to take matters into her own hands.

Beifongs do not quit. It wasn't in their blood.

As Lin thought about her mom's legacy, she walked outside the city limits. Usually, when she needed to clear her head she would go to the training arena inside the police station, but now that she was no longer employed there, she decided to go to the next best place. The earth itself.

Lin earthbended her way up to a cave high in the mountains on the outskirts of town. The view was perfect; she could see all of Republic City. She even had a clear view of her mother's statue.

Lin didn't know how long she sat on the compacted dirt floor of the cave, but soon enough; a badger mole peeked out from behind a rock.

"Well, I've heard a lot about your kind."

The badger mole continued to stare at her, unmoving.

"I guess you don't know whether or not to trust me, do you? Here,"

As Lin said this, she earthbended a tiny pebble halfway towards the badger mole. He looked at the pebble for a moment, before bending the pebble all the way.

"See, I'm like you."

Lin remembered her mother's story about living with the badger moles, and decided to try to become friends with at least one. She had never encountered one in all 50 years of her life. They seemed like nice enough creatures.

After contemplating the pebble for a moment, the badger mole walked over to her and snuggled in her side.

"I swear if you tell anyone about this…I do have a hardass reputation to uphold."

The badgermole simply looked up at her before burrowing even deeper into her side.

"Well, since you're here, I might as well talk to you."

And as Lin talked about her insecurities about leaving the police force, her mom's legacy and, the Equalist Revolution, to a badger mole of all things, she realized that maybe her mom would be proud of her, even after resigning. Lin wasn't quitting, she was doing things her way. Just like her mom would. And as the badgermole calmly sat by her side, an audience to her thoughts, she could have sworn that she saw her mom's statue shine even brighter in the distance.

What do you think?

Annnnd, by the way, if you happen to obsess over Lin Beifong like I do, I created this blog on Tumblr.
