After several requests, I decided to do this sequal to 'Starglass'. It was supposed to be a fluffy story with Max and Monica, and their feelings for each other. However, I couldn't see this story workin out so I've gave it up, but as a present to you all, you can see what I did write.
Deep down
At last, a break from the fighting!
Max sat down on a small rock and wiped the sweat from his brow. This mission to find zelmite wasn't what he thought it would be.
"The mayor might have told me about the psychopaths down here." Max grumbled. He them smiled at the thought of what his father would say if new Max was adventuring again instead of mining as he'd hoped.
He looked around the small cave he was in. There was nothing special about it; it was just one of those random places which monsters avoided. Still, Max wasn't about to complain. Fighting all the monsters in the mines was taking a series toll on him
'If only I had a partner.' Max thought. His thoughts then went to the young girl who had been his partner just three months ago, and his already low spirits dropped a little bit more.
'Why did I have to meet someone like her?' he questioned himself. 'Someone so fun to be with and talk with but happens to live a hundred years in the future.'
Ever since Monica had returned to her own time, Max had not been able to stop thinking about her. True, he missed his mother as well, but Monica had meant something extra special to him. He often thought about writing a letter to her in the future, but he new he couldn't express his feelings in a letter and anything less would be insulting, so he didn't write to her, resigning himself to a 'Give my love to Monica' at the end of his mother's letter.
He wondered how she was, and if she remembered him. He was sure she did, but he couldn't rid himself of the uncertainty that she had better things to do than spare a thought for him.
Not liking where his own thoughts were going, Max decided to get back to work. That had been his distraction from everyday problems since he started working for Cedric.
He stood up and prepared to leave, but he paused in mid step because he heard something. A strange ringing like the sound of a seismic vibration running though a bell; a very high pitched bell. As he looked around, something caught his eye. A single dot of light. Against the crushing darkness of the cave, it looked like a star in the night sky.
Before Max could even think of investigating, the dot expanded into a ball of blinding light, while the ringing got ten times louder and cut so deep into Max's head it was like tinnitus.
Then it was gone.
Max opened his eyes and lowered his hands, while thinking 'What the heck was that?!'.
He reached up and turned on his helmet light, and froze at the sight in front of him.
It was a girl, standing at the same height as Max
Well, that's all I'm afraid. I won't try and finish this fic so you can all imagine you own endings.
