Slade sat where he's sat for weeks now, almost unmoving, at robins bedside. The black haired man laid so still and his breathing so shallow that Slade thought the boy wonder was dead many times. "Come on my black bird, open your eyes." Slade whispered, hoping to bring robin to the real world but to no avail. The steady beep of the heart monitor started slowing, spacing out and tears steadily rolled down Slades unmasked cheeks. "You can't leave me robin, your all i have left..." Slade sobbed out. No matter what slade said as an attempt to bring robins mind back to him, the boy wonders mind was weeks away. Reliving what had landed him on his death bed.

It's been years since robin had quit the teen titans to work solo. And by now he was well into his early 23s, with his 23rd birthday just a handful of months away. He had also started a relationship with Slade who, despite what people think, was very caring and loving. Slade had given up a life of evil for robin and would, once in a while, join robin to take down some of Slades old comrades. It always made robin happy to see Slade doing such a thing. But one day robin wen out on a mission by himself only to and up broken by a man named Loki, who called himself a god. Robin had never faced this kind of enemy before and so had no idea what he was diving head first into.

Slade found him hours later. To keep the public from knowing the true identity of the Black Raven, the name robin took up after quitting the teen titans, Slade rushed the bleeding, dying man to their house and to the infirmary wing. And that's where they've stayed. Robin never waking and Slade to scared to move. Slade always thought robin could handle anything. That he was a pit bull with the grace of a song bird. But he was wrong. Robin was only human.

The realization pushed Slade over the edge and the man cried and sobbed into his hands. He couldn't go on without his little bird. There was just no way. So Slade came to the conclusion that he would end his own life should Robin die on this bed. Days passed by and Robin only got worse. Slade laid down next to the other and held the boy wonder in his arms as gently as he could. This was it. Today was Robins last day, these were the birds last breaths. Slade would of cried had their been anything left to cry. It would only be minutes till all the life drained from his lovers features and all would be over. Slade softly kissed the others lips. Lips so cold compared to the normal warmth that radiated off the young mans body. Slade watched the others face as robins pulse slowly stopped its beat and the heart monitors final tone rang out through the large room. Announcing what Slade already knew, this bird had fallen from his perch.

Slade found himself oddly happy that Robin was now gone, out of pain. A strange calm washed over him as he grabbed the hand gun off the side table and put it to his own temple. Years ago Slade promised Robin forever and he was going to keep that promise. He closed his eyes, remembered only the best memories and moments of Robin and himself, and pulled the trigger.
