Hey guys. This is my first one-shot and first Fara fan fiction. So, enjoy!
It was almost sundown, and Mara was still struggling with Let Down and his leash. He had refused to let Mara take the lead, and then ran around and jumped in a puddle of mud.
Now, Let Down was dirty and Mara was lost with him in the park. How stupid would she look if she walked in and told Victor, "I was walking my secret dog in the park and he got dirty and so we got lost in the park." Ha, that had to be a new one!
Mara sighed and sat on the park bench, watching the sky turn pink and Let Down snore on the ground.
Finally! She thought. It's about time he go to sleep!
It was surprisingly peaceful here in the park. Mara had only come here twice. Once on a Girls' Day Out with Poppy and another time with Joy. She watched the last of the kids run to their parents and disappear either into cars or down the street. Dog walkers riled up their happy dogs, feeding them treats for obeying orders, and hot dog and ice cream carts began closing up. She listened to the birds start and finish their songs, and watched as the sun sunk lower into the sky.
"Mara?" A voice asked.
Mara looked up, annoyed that her peacefulness had been disrupted.
"Fabian?" She asked, looking at the tall boy. She had never seen Fabian wear glasses before, but he was now, and he looked pretty cute.
"What are you doing out so late?" He asked. "Is that a dog?"
"Ya," Mara replied shyly. "His name's Let Down."
At the sound of his name, Let Down jumped up, spotted Fabian, and darted towards him.
"Let Down, no!" Mara shouted, but it was too late.
Let Down had tackled Fabian and was now licking his face off.
"Hey boy," Fabian said through long laughs.
Mara was giggling madly next to him, now lying on the grassy ground.
After a while, Let Down had hopped off Fabian and lay down on the ground, drifting off to another sleep. By then, the sun had sunk from the sky, and the moon was shining brightly with the stars above them.
Mara hunched herself back onto the park bench, and Fabian did the same. Both were really tired, and Mara's eyes were drooping closed. She lay her head on Fabian's shoulder, and Fabian looked down at her, shocked.
"Goodnight Fabian," she cooed, halfway asleep.
"Goodnight Mara," he said sleepily.
And with that they both drifted off to sleep, sitting on the park bench.
