Konichiwa!

I wrote this in under half an hour. Got a little inspired listening to a Rurouni Kenshin theme song: "1/3 no Junjou na Kanjou", or "1/3 True Feelings".

This one-shot short piece is simply just… that: short. No plot, definitely. I specialize in freezing scenes and writing them as they are. A true reflection of a "word-painter", don't you think?

Summary: A reunion, two loving souls, and a world full of colors.

Warning: Piece is very abstract! If you can't take poetry or even mild poetical ramblings, this story might confuse the hell out of you. But if you're willing to trudge ahead, don't say you haven't been warned.

Disclaimer: I do not own the Rurouni Kenshin characters. If I do, I would have one whole manga release focusing on Kenshin and Kaoru alone. Wahaha.

Enjoy! And please review too, thank you!

Reflections in Color

by: sRoze

A warm beam, a twinkle in the eyes. A shy embrace, a whiff of jasmine fragrance.

Red mane glistened under the quiet glare of the late evening sun. Raven strands danced to the rhythm of the evening breeze.

Mirroring smiles, reflecting a myriad of emotions. Emotions that were left unsaid but understood.

Emotions mutually shared.

"You're back."

Droplets of crystal shimmered on pale ivory.

"Aa, that I am."

Soft hues ofyellow lit up smooth gold, matching the rays of the setting sun.

A curtain of silence fell. Amethyst met sapphire, and suddenly time stood still.

Rustling waters flowed by, unaffected by the passage of time. Green grass rustled prettily. The glowing sun sank at the distant horizon, just as it did the many days before, and which it would still do the many days ahead.

And still, the gaze held.

The air prickled with sensation. There were so many thoughts, so much emotion… Seconds ticked, minutes passed. Whimsical pink clouds appeared, peppering the dusky orange skies. Billows of light purple surrounded the bright ball of fire.

And still, not a word was exchanged.

There was no need to. The eyes said whatever they needed to say, and that was it.

After a final moment, violet tore away from blue.

"Look."

The last glimmers of the sun's weakening rays disappeared below the faraway horizon. In a few seconds, they all but faded.

Night took over dusk. A blanket of black overrode the evening canvas.

"Look."

Eyes turned heavenwards. The full moon shone maidenly upon the riverbank. The waters carried a creamy-white reflection of it, though distorted by the leisurely flow of the current.

"The moon is beautiful tonight."

"Yes, it is."

"It feels peaceful here."

"Aa."

A moment pause.

"Are you happy?"

"Oro?"

"I am. You are back, sound and safe."

An inward smile. "Sessha is happy too. To be back with his… family."

A wistful one. "Yes… family."

The very first star appeared. It twinkled brightly, and soon the others joined the first star on the nightly stage. They seemed to beam down on the two figures standing by the river, to give them their divine blessings.

Like sparkling diamonds in a vast sea of blackness.

It was getting dark, though the light of the moon was enough to illuminate their path. Night sounds magnified: crickets, distant barks, murmuring waters.

The chilly wind whistled. Another tight embrace.

Another radiating beam, another tender smile.

Red and raven, swaying in the night breeze. Amethyst and sapphire, glowing with that one emotion: love.

Him and her, forever and eternal.

"Come on. Let's go home."
