Title: Untitled
Pairing/Character: Danny Messer/Lindsay Monroe
Rating: G
Disclaimer: I barely have enough money to go to college, so no, nothing here that is recognizable belongs to me, nor am I using any of it for profit.
Summary: Lindsay unexpectedly shows up at Danny's doorstep.
Notes: Coda for episode 4x19 'Personal Foul.' Written because I read somewhere that this is around the time Danny/Lindsay reconciled after the whole Rikki incident, so wanted to run with the plotbunny; was also originally written about six months ago to be entered into a contest at a Danny/Lindsay forum, but those plans fell through. -_-

She thinks about hailing a cab and getting in, but the fact that the Cabbie Killer is still at large makes her hesitate. It's raining cats and dogs though, and the subway is closed (of all the bad luck). So, she opts to continue walking, although her pace quickens considerably. It's not just an idle walk in the rain anymore, now she has a destination in mind.
It's easy to think about what she's doing objectively. Yes, she still might get hurt, and Danny is a hard person to love, but while all that may be true, she still loves him. In the end, it's all about whether to trust or to not trust.
She's been doing the not trusting thing for weeks now, and it's not keeping her warm at night.

He feels Ruben's absence more so in the evenings than at any other time, all alone in his apartment, mostly in the dark save for one desk lamp shining a little bit of light into the spacious room.
His evenings currently consist of thinking about Ruben, about Rikki and him. His life has been riddled with past regrets and mistakes, which, with most, he has learned to live with. But this one, this one he doesn't know how to move past. It has cost him the one good thing in his life.
And he doesn't know how to get it back.

He's on his way to bed early when a soft knock at his door surprises him out of his stupor.
"Lindsay?" she smiles shyly at the astonishment in his voice when he opens the door and she's standing there, soaking wet.
"I, uh, I wanted to take you upon on your offer. Before."
He nods, perfectly understanding what she means, reliving the conversation they had a while ago. He moves aside to let her in, a bit stupefied.
His opportunity at getting a second chance is right in front of him; he doesn't intend to screw up twice.
