Please don't hate me for starting another one...
Reid's mother was sick, worse than usual. Reid had requested a few days off so he could fly down and be with her. It pained the BAU that he had to go through it alone but he refused when Morgan offered to go along with him.
"My problems aren't your problems," he told them firmly. Morgan sighed as he watched the kid awkardly pick up his bag and leave. Morgan shook his head.
"He shouldn't have to deal with this alone," he sighed to JJ who nodded.
"I know but he has to want us to help him."
Morgan nodded. That didn't mean he had to like it.
Reid held his mother's hand while she slept, the medication kicking in.
"Spencer," she moaned. "I have to tell you something..."
He scooted closer.
"Mother, you should rest."
"In case...the medication doesn't help..."
"It WILL help."
"I have to tell you something," she repated.
Reid frowned and looked at her.
"Tell me what?"
She had tears in her eyes.
"I'm so sorry...I just wanted to protect you..." She started to sob.
"Mom...what is it?"
She looked at him in the eyes and had tears rolling down hers.
"I'm...not your mother."
Reid froze. She was sick...the medication was making her say crazy things.
"You...you don't know what you're saying...you're sick...this isn't you talking."
"Spencer, you have to believe me." His mother grabbed his hand. "I raised you like you were my son but I did not give birth to you."Reid swallowed, trying to process the information.
"Who did?"
"A 16 year old runaway."
Suddenly Reid remembered why he hated clitches so much.
"She came to our house about ready to give birth..."
Reid couldn't stop shaking.
"And?"
"She was gone by morning." Diana had tears in her eyes. "And there you were...so tiny and helpless and William and I were trying so hard to have one of our own..."
"So it was you that didn't want to have more?"
"Why mess with perfection?"
Reid pushed that memory out of his head.
"I didn't tell you mainly because...of your father..."
"My...real one?"
Diana nodded.
"Your mother...she was so young, and terrified. She got into a bad situation with a really bad man...what she described was like a monster...and she was afraid for her baby. Afraid of him being raised by that man..."
She had tears rolling down her cheeks.
"She just wanted to protect you from him Spencer. She wanted you to be able to have a normal life. That's why she left."
So much information...he felt sick that his father might be some kind of monster.
"What's her name?" He pressed. "Do you...know her name?"
"Her name was Isobel...Isobel Williams." Mrs. Reid couldn't stop crying. "And she mentioned your father's name...in her sleep."
Reid could barely think straight, so many thoughts.
"What was it?"
"Rick...Rick Daniels."
Reid had tears in his eyes.
"Why...why did you tell me this mom?"
"Because," she whispered. "I saw on your news that your father had been released...from prison...and I was worried about him coming after...you."
Reid froze, newfound fear entering him. He was adopted. His birth mother might still be out there...his father was a monster.
"Mom...it's okay, really."
"I'm so sorry Spencer, I was just protecting you and...I wanted to tell you..."
"Mom really, it's okay," Reid whispered. "I don't hate you, I'm not mad at you. I still love you." Quietly he rocked her back and forth as she sobbed herself to sleep.
With shaking deep breaths he called Garcia.
"Yeah sweetie pie, what is it?"
"Garcia I need you to help me find some people for me."
"Sure thing suger. Who are they?"
He took another long deep breath.
"My parents...my birth parents."
