Sam never got the concept of Mother's Day, not because she didn't know what it was, but because she never had anyone to celebrate it with. This Mother's Day was different because she had Brooke.
Sam and Brooke's bond had been rocky at first but they grew to love each other. This is a special day for both these lovely ladies because it will be the first time they celebrate it.
Brooke, now being Sam's adopted mom gave her great pleasure. She was happy and so was her daughter.
Sam is in the kitchen cooking a Mother's Day breakfast, when Brooke enters the room.
"Sam what is all this?"
"Today is Mother's Day I hope you didn't forget considering you haven't stopped talking about it since the adoption was finalized."
"No I didn't forget I just thought you would. You know you and your forgetfulness."
"I am not forgetful mother."
"Yes you are. You forgot to watch Jamie last week."
"That was one time, anyways, go sit down."
"Bossy."
"Mom, if you keep calling me names I could always take your present back."
"I am done talking now, but I am starving"
"Good because it's done."
Sam goes to the kitchen table with breakfast, Bacon and Chocolate Chip Pancakes, and puts them in front of Brooke and herself.
"Are they okay?" Sam asks.
"They are great. Where did you learn to cook like this I always wanted to know?"
"Well, if you have lived in foster homes like I did where nobody cooked anything or even ate in the house, you had to fend for yourself it just took years of practice."
After they finished eating Sam gathered up the dishes and put them in the sink.
"Is it present time yet?" Brooke asks.
"You are just like a 5 year old you know that?" Sam replies "Yes it is."
Sam hands her 2 wrapped presents and a card. Brooke opens the card and reads.
Brooke,
This is the first Mother's Day I have ever celebrated so feel lucky. I never thought that moving in with you that I would have a family but now that I do I won't ever give it up. Happy Mother's Day, Mom.
Love,
Your daughter, Sam
Brooke started tearing up.
"You are crying over a card right now. Wow you are a softy."
"Shut-up, it was sweet"
"Alright open your gifts"
Brooke opens the first gift. Brooke looks at it confused. It is a worn out piece of paper which had names on it, last names and the last name on the list was DAVIS and it was circled.
"Sam, what is this?"
"It's a foster home list. Most kids have them. You keep it with you wherever you go and you add the name to the list. If you get lucky enough the last one on the list will get circled like yours."
"This is sweet, but don't you want to hang on to it"
"No I don't need to anymore. No open your last present."
"Okay."
Brooke opened the present and it was a picture frame. Inside the frame was a picture of her and Sam. On the frame were the words engraved, A Mother and Daughter's Bond is Unbreakable.
Brooke looked at Sam and they both just smiled. They could get used to more and more days like this as the years pass. Most importantly, they would.
