Chapter One: Myths and Reality

On one autumn day, there was a light blue unicorn pony named Melissa at Pony Magic School. Melissa has purple eyes, dark blue straight hair with pink-and-purple streaks with a side bang, and a treble clef cutie mark. She was in her last class of the day, history, taught by Mr. Brant. He is a red Earth pony with blue eyes, gold curly hair, and a book as his cutie mark.

"Alright class." Mr. Brant says. "You get to write a history report about any thing you want for tonight's homework due tomorrow."

The bell rings and the whole class including Melissa rush out of the classroom in a blur. Melissa rushes over to the Central Pony Library to pick out a book for her report. She stops by a light purple pegasi pony that looks like her but looks a little different named Melody. Melody has blue eyes, dark purple straight hair with blue-and-pink streaks with a side bang, and a book cutie mark.

"May I help you, Melissa?" Asked Melody.

" I need a book for my history homework." Responded Melissa.

"Let me show you where you can find historical information."

Melody leads Melissa into the history section of the library and walks away from there. Melissa search the bookshelves for an hour until she spots a book called "Merology."

"This book would be perfect for my report." Says Melissa excitedly.

Melissa uses her horn, which shines a blue glow, to pick up the book and leaves the library in a sprint. A few hours later at her house, she was reading the "Merology" book looking interested.

"Wow! I never knew so much about mermaids!" exclaimed Melissa.

Then, the door creaked open and the door slammed. She heard hoovesteps coming near her which turned out to be coming from Melody.

"So how's the book so far." Asked Melody.

"It's good. I never knew so much about mermaids and how they…"

"I hate to break this to you but mermaids aren't real. It's just an old pony tale created centuries ago. I don't even know what it was doing in the history section in the first place but maybe somepony missed placed the book by accident."

"But…" says Melissa a little depressed.

"Sorry, Melissa but it's the real truth about mermaids. See you later."

Melody exits the house and leaves Melissa alone with the book.

"I know mermaids are real. Mermaids probably existed before ponies or they're hiding somewhere else." Says Melissa. "I need to do more research on them."

Melissa starts writing her report by using her horn shining a blue glow again. The next day in Pony Magic School, Melissa's report was given back to her. The report had an big, red F on the cover with a frowny face and a note that says "write a report on something that's real." That's it. I'm doing more research starting after school. No matter what it takes.
