Blue (Standalone)
By mewling

Even though, I scream,
As the sky cries in torrents,
You can't hear my voice.
Futility (blue)

The streets were empty, and the old rain that rushed from the dark sky was heavy and cold. The black road shone blue with wet, intercepted by the splashes of innumerable droplets. The noise was strong, and in the night, Naruto could barely see the figure in front of him.

/Why were you calling/

He had been woken by the noise, and after checking through the window, rushed out without stopping. The wet asphalt was cold and rough on his bare feet. His body shivering incessantly, he squinted, arms hugging themselves.

/At midnight, on my window? /

Naruto could feel his pyjamas as they struck to his skin, and water as it ran down his thigh. It plastered blond hair against his forehead and in his eyes.

"Sasuke!"

/That silent question/

Dark skies above thundered and the rain increases its assault. The streetlamp outside Naruto's apartment illuminated the downpour white. The two boys stood two meters apart, neither moving.

Even after all this time, he couldn't mistake that shape, that hair, that aura. Hands, in pockets, back curved and face hidden, the stance was deceptively casual, but they both knew better than that.

The pain in Naruto's throat grew, and he knew he was breathing hard.

/Nothing I could say/

"What did you… what did…tell me… what!"

His voice, loud as always, competed with the lightning. He didn't know what he meant. So many things he had wanted to say and do in this moment, all he had thought in that time, jumbled up and swirled around in his head.

"Sasuke-teme!"

/Could ever touch your cold heart/

A childhood that was long ago, promises that could never be kept.

It couldn't be helped, this situation was too cold. The happiness and innocence was washed away, the two could no longer hide behind denial. It wasn't so long ago, but once the string is broken…

/So the words won't come out/

…it may never be connected, right? Those two meters could be two thousand instead.

His eyes were wide; he knew his body was visibly trembling. The rain wouldn't stop, and it was although they were alone in Kohona.

"Why?" he whispered. Emotions caught at his voice, like the wind did the rain, and he wished he could also be cold.

"WHY!" Naruto shouted. Sasuke's dark hair was as wet as Naruto's, his drenched body looking skinny and unfamiliar.

/Screaming and crying/

His pale hand, its long, thin fingers pushed the screen of hair away. "I don't know, either! Stop asking." He stared at the street lamp behind Naruto uncomfortably.

What could be said? The truth had never made anyone happy. What ever fragile bonds had ever existed between them had probably eroded with time anyway. It was easy to forget.

/Hoarse in my desperation/

"It certainly wasn't because of you, dobe."

"Stupid Sasuke-teme! It's not like I wanted you to come back!"

/These are hollow lies/

A/N: Well, that sucked. It was short, made no sense, was poorly written with not enough sense of place and had poor grammar. It has no particular time frame, and could be seen as hatred, friendship, shounen-ai or even yaoi. It's an interpret-it-as-you-will story. I don't like it at all. Stupid haiku(s).

Who wants to go get drunk with me and forget it! Woo hoo!

Please review nicely heart
