As Light and L sat in restaurant, Light supposedly listening to Misa and L preoccupied with the cake in front of him, the detective wondered about the teen he was chained to. It was Valentine's Day and the blonde decided to drag her love, even with L chained to him, to one of her favorite places to eat. Strange as it was, Light didn't resist her. Turning to look at the other two at the table, L observed Misa giving Light a small, decorated bag of chocolates.

"Misa-Misa made these especially for her Light-kun!" The girl said, obviously proud of herself. The teen sitting across from her just smiled and pocketed the chocolates, not bothering to try them. Surprisingly, though Light did lean forwards and gave Misa a quick peck on the lips, making the blonde girl blush.

When they parted ways with Misa after the date, L watched as Light dropped the decorated bag into the trash. "That's a waste, Yagami-kun. And after the trouble Misa-san went to make that for you."

Light looked at him quietly for a second before smiled slightly. "I refuse to eat Honmei-choko('true love chocolate') unless I return the feelings."

Later that day, as Light and L sat in front of the computers and researched the case, the detective found himself wondering about Light again and what he said earlier. Since Light did not accept the chocolate, that meant he didn't love Misa. This simple fact made L very happy. But soon he realized he was expressing this emotion outwardly, seeing how Light was now looking at him curiously.

"What are you smiling about Ryuuzaki? Did you find something important to the case?" The teen asked, tilting his head to the side as he did.

"Sorry Yagami-kun, but no, I didn't." Light nodded and turned back to his screen, resuming where he left off.

Looking down at the small box of chocolates Watari had gotten him that day, L was distressed to find that there were only two left. Picking up one of them carefully, the detective moved so he was sitting next to Light, drawing the brunette's attention once again.

"Would you like one of my chocolates Yagami-kun?"

Light looked at him, surprise evident on his face at this offering before he slowly smiled and nodded, taking the sweet just as carefully as L had. Placing the chocolate in his mouth, the teen ate it slowly, savoring it even though the detective knew he wasn't too fond of sweets. L found himself blushing slightly, realizing what this action meant.

Light hadn't even tasted the sweets Misa had made him with such care while he seemed to very much enjoy the store-bought chocolate that L had given him.

Picking up the last piece of chocolate after Light was done; L placed it in front of his lips. "Would you like to share my last piece with me, Light-kun?"
