So this is an old story That I had long promised to rewrite and update...Yeah It was kinda put on the back burner...I am sorry about that. Vanella the Titan is is for you!
Disclaimer: I do not own Teen Titans!
The sun was high over head, shining down brightly, warming the white sandy shore. The cool sea breeze was fair, as were the waves that gently came in and went back out again. It was a calm and beautiful scene to be hold, but not nearly as beautiful as the young mermaid that sat near the water's edge. The mermaid had long red hair that covered her chest from view and ran long past her waist. From the waist down, however was where he metallic purple tail dipped down into the water. The mermaid raised her head a moment to look out over the ocean, with her bright emerald eyes, that sparkled in the sunlight. Closing those jeweled eyes, she lifted her head even more so that the sun touched her perfectly tan and perfectly lovely face. This vision of beauty was called by the name of Kori.
Returning her gaze to what she held in her hands, Kori continued to carefully craft a new necklace. Her nimble fingers were fastening a deep blue tear drop jewel about the size of a thumbnail onto the necklace. Humming quietly to herself, the mermaid did not have a care in the world. It was moments like this that gave her peace.
Unlike so many others of her kind, Kori willingly went above the surface. Above the surface was said to be a dangerous place, one that Merkind should never go. For Kori it was an escape from the cold and lonely world below the waves. It had been made that way for her, by her mother and sister.
Their cruel treatment of her had driven Kori outside the protective boundaries of the Kingdom. Now, Kori lived in an under water cave not far from the cove where she sat. Memories began to fill her mind then and with them Kori felt the pain close around her. Even now, Kori was still marked by their scars, both emotionally and physically. How long had she endured their torture? When had their cruel words and abuse just become routine?
The answer to those and many other questions were unknown to Kori. It had taken her a good while to convince herself, that they could no longer treat her so. Closing her eyes and taking in a deep breath to push the horrible memories far from her mind, Kori decided to go back to making the necklace.
It did not take much more time to finish it. She held the Necklace up and marveled at it's beauty. Kori let out a small giggle as put it around her neck. A sudden loud noise caused Kori to let out a gasp of surprise. It sounded as a loud boom that sent vibrations through the water and sand beneath her. Then there were more, to many for her to count. Kori looked off across the ocean to try and find the source of the noise that's when she saw them.
In the distance there were two ships, Kori knew it from her many ventures to more inhabited islands. Diving into the water, her curiosity made her want to get a closer look to what was happening. Kori had made it to the ships in no time at all but something was wrong, very wrong.
Just before she when to break through the surface, Kori saw Humans crashing into the water, sinking to the seafloor, as clouds of red followed them. The mermaid could smell the strong scent of blood, which hung in the water. Kori's eyes widen as she realized that the Humans were engaged in a battle just above her.
The pain and sorrow of the dead that now surrounded Kori was almost too much for her too bare. The urge to flee came to her then. Sharks would fill these waters before too much longer but something in her called Kori to the surface. Moving to the surface and slowly raising her head out of the water, Kori could see the Humans fighting each other, some were swinging over the gap from a ship with an odd black flag with a skull and cross bones to one with a dark green flag.
A shot ran out and a Human that had been swinging on one of the ropes plummeted to the water, right beside Kori. Letting out a frightened cry, which had gone unnoticed by all, Kori dove back into the water, when she did she could see that the Sharks were already gathering. Swimming underneath one of the ships, Kori burst through the surface on the opposite side of the ship with the green flag.
Spying a rope ladder, she propelled herself up to it. Grabbing on it took all her upper body strength to pull her body out of the water and up to a small ledge. She was now stuck there, looking down she could see the sharks swarming in the crystal blue water below as a battle continued to go on close by.
Kori took the chance to look over the rail and on to the deck. Close to her was a ragged and bearded man crossing swords with a young and spry man. It was this young man that pulled Kori's attention. The male had jet black spiky hair and dark blue eyes. His face was handsome indeed, his features were sharp and flawless. Even though he wore a baggy white cotton tunic, Kori would still see that his body was well toned.
Never had Kori looked at a male in such a way. There had been many in the Kingdom that we just as handsome, but none had caught her attention as this Human did. A near miss, caused Kori to gasp and put her hand over her mouth. She felt her heart flutter and her body begin to shake with anxiousness. The young man was to quick for the ragged man, because a quick slash of his sword ended the ragged man's life.
A relieved breath came to Kori as the fight ended. However movement to the young man's left caught her attention then. She watched as another man came to stab the young man in the back. Kori reacted before she had time to think, concern for the black haired man over took her, causing Kori cried out, "Behind you!"
Prince Richard, who everyone that knew him called him Robin, heard the warning and he spun around just in time to see what he though was a woman's face disappear over the rail. He had no time to go and look as he saw why the warning had been given. A cowardly pirate was looking to sheath his blade in Robin's back. There was no hesitation as Robin struck down his enemy with one swift slash of his sword.
Wasting no more of his time with the low scum, Robin quickly grabbing one of the ropes and swung across to the pirate's ship. As soon as his boots hit the deck, he was face to face with the Captain. He swung crazy at Robin. Who blocked his wild strikes with ease, this would be no challenge for him. It was over in less then a minute and the Pirate Captain lay dead at his feet.
All the other pirates had been brought to their knees by Robin's men. They roared with glory in their win and cheered for their Captain.
Swinging back to his ship, Robin called out to his first mate Stone, "How many of my men are killed?"
A tall and extremely muscled African man stepped forward, "Only Merk, not a real loss, other then that just a few nasty cuts."
"That is still a shame, make sure he is taken care of properly." Robin held no real remorse for Merk, but he was still one of his crew and he would be given his rites before being buried at sea. As Robin cleaned his sword on a bit of fabric, he gave another order. "Stone, have some men search for anything useful on that ship, then take care of any straggling pirates."
"Aye, sir." Stone bowed his head some before leaving to do as he was commanded.
It was then that the image of the woman's face returned to Robin. He then went to the starboard side just to ease his curiosity. As he came within a few feet, Garfield, an over energetic sailor who ruled the crow's nest, jumped in front of Robin. "Robin, that was awesome the way you slashed." he made the motion and followed with another. "and took out those pirates!"
"Gar just get back up to the nest!" Robin let out a sigh with a small smile as he spoke. Gar and Stone were the closest to him of any of the crew. He watched Gar salute him and shimmy back up the rope to his perch. The Prince thought about their lives together as he moved to the rail.
Whatever it was that he had seen had to be long gone by now from what he saw as he found nothing. There was nothing in sight and Robin was left scratching his head. He knew that he had seen something. What exactly he could not be sure. If he had been one for tall tales he may have believed it was a Siren calling out to him. Except Sirens usually lead sailors to their deaths, not rescue them.
Kori had know she could not linger any longer and it was better to take her chances with the sharks below then to risk being captured by a Human. The sharks she could out swim. As soon as she hit the water, Kori was swimming like there was no tomorrow. Slowing her speed only when she grew close to her home. She was just about safe when something struck her hip and pain shot through her.
Reaching for her hip, Kori found a deep wound and her blood soon bloomed in the water. He had first thought that a shark may have gotten her but looking around she saw nothing. It was then that she could sense her sister. Kori had nearly missed it as pain began to consume her mind.
"Oh Sister dear, did I hurt you?" a voice chuckled bitterly in Kori's mind.
"BlackSun, but…why are you?" Kori forced out through the pain. The salt water was burning in the wound. She needed to get away from her sister where ever she was.
"Why?Mother wants you back of course." Black Sun's voice was like poison as it entered Kori's mind again. "I'm here to bring you back alive, unfortunately."
Kori was filled with an overwhelming amount of anger and fear. She was not going back no matter what happened to her. She'd have to be dead first. "NO! I will never go with you!" Kori needed to escape and get as far away from her sister that she could. Kori also knew that it was no longer safe anywhere in the sea.
"We can do this the easy way or, my personal favorite the hard way." Amusement was evident in Black Sun's voice. "I prefer the hard way. It will make it all the sweeter to drag you back."
Kori felt something else hit her, this time in her ribs. She heard a wicked crack and the pain was almost unbearable. "Never!"The mermaid could not take another blow, she would not have the strength to swim after another one. That's when the idea came to her. The surface! Kori knew she needed to get to the surface, she knew that if there was one place her sister would not fallow that was to the surface.
"Submit!" Black Sun was growing irritated by her sister's lack of compliance.
Taking that moment, driven by pure adrenaline, Kori drove herself as fast as she could go towards the beach. Pushing herself through the pain, putting it back to her mind.
"Where do you think you can go Kori? I control the sea! I will find you!" Kori's sister's voice screamed in her head as she grew closer to the shallow water.
Something else when whizzing by and collided with her left temple. As her vision blurred, Kori propelled herself out of the water and onto the beach. Landing hard on the sand and drained of almost all her strength. Kori clawed at the ground pulling herself completely out of the water, as she heard an ear shattering scream and the waters became harsh and violent off the small shore.
Kori smiled as the world around her began to fade into darkness. She had escaped her sister, even just for a moment. The mermaid fell into the black with no idea what was happening to her. Kori also could not have predicted what was coming her way.
Prince Robin jumped out of the row boat, as his men pulled it onto the shore. Looking around at the island, Robin hoped there was something useful to be found. They needed fresh water, but even more they needed time off of the ship. The fight with the pirates had given the men some exercise but Robin feared they would develop cabin fever.
"Move in land and see if you can find fresh water." Robin said as he turned to one of his men, before he started walking down the beach. He scanned the trees as a scream and a strong gust of wind caused him to stop and check his surroundings. The sea was now dark and uneasy and gave him a foreboding feeling. Seeing no threat, Robin decided to press on.
Just as the Prince climbed over some rocks, he spotted something laying on the beach. His boots hit the soft sand with a dull thud as he dropped from the rocks, to investigate the scene. Once he got close enough he could see that it was indeed a person, which he found odd since this island was not inhabited or that is what he was lead to believe.
Robin ran down the beach and dropped to the girl's side. He could see that she was still breathing and that was a good sign. He noticed then her lack of clothes and wondered if she was washed up from a storm or if she had been attacked and left in such a state. Looking over her naked form, Robin felt like a bit of a lecture as he did. It was not his first time seeing a naked woman but it just felt a bit indecent since she was not awake or had any control on the situation.
Soon he spotted the nasty gash that marred her hip, Robin pushed all other thoughts away as he saw she was visibly hurt. He knew that she could not treat her here on the beach, needle and thread would be needed. Taking off his shirt quickly, he tore a strip of cloth from it and bound her wound as best he could. Gently Robin turned the girl over on to her back.
The girl's long red hair that had spilled across her face, soon fell away and was in full view. Robin could not help the breath that caught in his chest as he gazed down at the beautiful creature. She had nearly struck him dumb with her angelic face. Not even the small cut to her temple took away from her loveliness. The more he looked into her face, Robin suddenly realized he had seen the face before. A flash of memory came to him, of her face quickly disappearing from sight.
It was puzzling to say the least. Robin could not bring himself to say for sure it was this girl who he saw. It could have just been his eyes tricking him, after being so long at sea. He shook his head to clear it of the foolish thoughts, this girl needed help that was certain.
Robin looked over her body, finding yet another injury to her ribs as a harsh bruise bloomed, with small gash just under her right breast. Wrapping the remains of his tunic around, her small frame before Robin lifted her up into his arms. Someone had sorely mistreated her and that thought alone cause Robin to feel anger settle into his stomach. He would return her to his ship to see that she received medical attention.
So Chapter 1 revamp! Woot!
