"I'm just a girl with a geometry test next period, and I haven't studied," Terra said it slowly, almost having to force it out. She couldn't deny that Beast Boy's offer was tempting, to be a Teen Titan. It held a sense of nostalgia, familiarity, and most of all, comfort. But Terra knew that she couldn't be who Beast Boy wanted. What she said was true, the girl before, the real Terra, was just a memory. A wandering whisper of the past, and she had a strange feeling that she didn't want to go back and be that person. She had a feeling that something bad had happened, something she knew could never really be forgotten or forgiven.
Terra didn't want to hurt his feelings, but she had no choice. She couldn't pretend to be something she wasn't. She backed slowly away into the shadows. She was still reluctant, but Terra knew that this had to be done. They'd both end up getting hurt even worse if she tried to fit into his ideal.
She turned around just in time to see Beast Boy running to his team's aid, and in the back of her mind, Terra just hoped she hadnt led him on during the time they'd spent together recently. She whispered something to the empty air, "I never promised to come back,"
