Denial to Acceptance
Sometimes, when someone you cherish leaves this world, shock and denial overrides all else of common sense and thinking...
This is a conversation He has with Her.
[It begins with: "Naru" then "Ino" and so forth]
"It's a lie…"
"What is?"
"This… us…"
"Why do you say that?"
"Because…"
"Yeah?"
"Because you're not here…"
"What do you mean? I'm right here with you."
"No… you're not… you're not living anymore…"
"What are you talking about? I'm as much as alive as you are…"
"But that's it… you're not alive anymore."
"Explain…"
"You're dead… I saw you… I was so distracted and… It's my fault isn't it…?"
"What was?"
"That you're dead…"
"Of course it wasn't."
"Yes it was… I wasn't able to protect you… they ambushed us and… I wasn't strong enough…"
"You are strong Naruto… you are."
"No I'm not… I watch them kill you… and I… I was helpless…"
"But you can't save everyone… you know that, don't you?"
"The only one I wanted to protect was you Ino… only you…"
"Naruto…"
"So that's why this is a fake… am I dreaming?"
"No… I am real just as you are Naruto."
"No you're not… I went to your funeral… I cried there… I saw your lifeless body in the casket… I saw them lower you into the ground…"
"But I am still here… how do you explain that?"
"You're only in my mind Ino… a place where you are always welcomed…"
"Are you sure… it seems like I'm still living in Konoha… and I'm here where you asked me to be your girlfriend… does that not mean I am still breathing?"
"No… at least not in the real world… the place I asked you out… is the only place I ever really cherished… and you. You know… sometimes I would wake up screaming… do you want to know why?"
"Yes… I do."
"You were in my arms as we cuddle on the bed… my eyes were closed and as my arms around you seem to close in on each other… I opened my eyes to see only blood… your blood."
"Why would you dream of me dying Naruto?"
"Because I blame myself I suppose…"
"You shouldn't… Don't you remember what I told you?"
"Hm… of course I do… it was before we went on the mission that…"
"Yes, I told you that no matter what happens…"
"I should never forget the good times we shared…"
"Yes…"
"I actually thought you were breaking up with me…"
"Now why would I break up with you?"
"I dunno… maybe because…"
"I love you."
"What?"
"I love you Naruto, do you love me?"
"Of course I do… I truly love you Ino… always have… and… always will."
"Good… promise me something would you?"
"Anything…"
"Promise me that you'll move on…"
"But I can't! I love you too much…"
"You don't have to close your heart Naruto… just open it up so others have a chance to heal it for you…"
"But Ino I…"
"I know… it's hard… but promise me you'll try…"
"I will try…"
"Thank you…"
"Ino…"
"Yes Naruto?"
"I wish to hold you again… can I join you?"
"No, not yet… you still haven't completed your dream."

"Do you remember what that dream is?"
"To become Hokage…"
