Ginny raised her freckled face to the sky, enjoying the warm summer sun. The sun was shinning, the birds were singing and for the moment, her family was safe. But, somehow, all that couldn't shake the funk she'd been in since school ended. It was hard to be happy when your boyfriend dropped you because he was going off to try and get himself killed. It was hard because they had been so happy, they were so good together. And to go from secretive smiles and unconscious humming to avoiding each other's eyes and awkward silences was difficult.
Tears formed under her closed eyelids. What she wouldn't give to hear his out of tune humming again.
"Hey, Gin, stop day dreaming and start putting those plates out."
Ginny opened her eyes and glared at Fred and George. They both smirked.
"Oh no, she's glaring at us! What ever shall we do?"
"Quick, George, run away!"
Ginny scowled. "Maybe I should run away. At least then I wouldn't have to listen to you pair."
Fred slung an arm around Ginny's shoulder. "Nah, you'd miss your handsome-"
"-Charming-"
"-Diabolically intelligent-"
"-Lady killing-"
"-Brothers."
Fred and George smirked at each other.
Ginny widened her eyes in mock innocence. "Oh no, I'd still see Bill and Charlie."
Fred and George both clutched their chests and reared back like they had been hurt. "Ginny-baby, you wound us. We're so proud!"
"Fred! George! Get in here this instant!' Molly Weasley's bellow sounded out into the garden.
Fred and George exchanged a quick glance. "Uh oh. Better go. Remember, Gin, you haven't seen us."
Ginny shook her head as she watched the twins sneak- complete with exaggerated tip toeing- around to the front of the house. Still, she couldn't help but laugh. The twins had been unusually kind to her since the break up; they were always around to make her laugh.
Ginny sighed and returned to setting the tables for dinner. Everyone was here for the wedding and Molly Weasley was taking the opportunity to feed her children as much as possible.
"Hi, Ginny!"
Ginny looked up with a suspicious expression as Hermione glided over, unnaturally chipper. "You three finally decide to help with dinner, have you?"
Hermione paused, her wide grin faltering. "Three? Harry's been with Bill for the last three hours."
Ginny swallowed hard. Harry was avoiding her again. "Oh."
Ginny forced a smile. "So then what were you and Ron doing for the last three hours?"
Hermione blushed a deep red.
Ginny laughed. "I'm guessing I really don't want to know the details."
Hermione glared at Ginny and grabbed a handful of cutlery. "I wasn't going to tell you anyway."
"Well, it's about time," Ginny said. "I thought I was going to have to lock you two in a room to get you together. Although, after that stint with Lavender…" Ginny shook her head. "Sorry about that."
Hermione shrugged. "That wasn't your fault. Ron was the idiot who snogged Lavender in front of everyone."
Hermione stopped to watch Ron as he emerged from the Burrow, a dopey grin on his face. She sighed happily.
Ginny cleared her throat. She ignored the pangs of jealousy. She was that happy once. And she would be again. She was not letting Harry get away with this. One way or another he was going to see reason.
Ginny looked up as she heard a strange noise. She smiled, feeling strangely buoyed by her decision to bring Harry around to her way of thinking.
"Hermione?"
"Hmm?"
"You're humming."
