A/N: TWO new fics so close to each other?! Someone help, I think I've been murdered and replaced by a robot .

Miles was ecstatic.

"I hope you understand what an undertaking this is, Mr. Morales." His teacher drawled, eyes hesitant but also so very proud. His parents had almost mirrored that look. Almost because they had no hesitation.

"I do, believe me, this-I mean-I never thought that'd it'd be even a mildly good-"

"Miles." The woman cut in, surprised. "You wrote a theory on multi-dimensional physics that won't cause mass destruction in testing. Theoretical or not, the physics are there, and-how? How did you think it wasn't much?" She asked, incredulous.

"I-I dunno, it just seemed kinda obvious." He said. 'Aw crap.' he thought, brain catching up to his mouth about the same moment his teacher's dropped open. "I mean, uh, it-it's, um, really, er, complex and, it t-took me a while and...yeah." he tried.

It was a truly spectacular failure.

"Miles, I…" She stuttered, taking a few seconds to gather herself. "I knew you were a smart boy, but this is just...well, I don't regret pushing your paper to the scientific community at large. Copyrighted under your name, obviously."

"Still kinda mad about that…" He murmured. Stupid fine print in the school's sign up form…

"I truly apologize, but I knew you would turn down the offer, and I couldn't let you waste so much talent over embarrassment and hesitance." Well, at the very least, she was sincere about the apology.

A knock on the door and Miles practically forgot about the previous conversation, excited to meet the, quote, "Genius scientist" who had all but bribed the school into letting him take an apprenticeship under them. His teacher stood and opened the door, smiling politely at whoever was on the other side.

"Miles, allow me to introduce you-"

The woman stepped back and-

Miles' was in shock.

"-to Dr. Olivia Octavius. Thank you, doctor, for being a part of the Science Mentorship program."

"It's my pleasure! I'm just happy I can help the science community of tomorrow." The 'good doctor' exclaimed, her right arm still in a sling from the truck that apparently didn't kill her on impact, as Peter and Gwen had thought.

Miles was no longer ecstatic.

"Is everything alright, young man?" The only-a-little-crazy physicist asked.

'Say something, ANYTHING, that doesn't incriminate you!' Miles pleaded with himself. "You're my hero." He blurted. 'Oh my god…'

"Oh!" She was clearly a little off guard at the 'blunt' statement. "W-Well, I suppose it's fate we met then, yes?" She asked, quickly recovering, a soft smile drifting across her face. Miles, knowing the monster behind the face, really was uncomfortable at the way that smile seemed honest.

"Y-Yeah! Fate, or something…" He murmured, shifting a bit in place.

"Now Miles," His teacher-blessed, kind woman she was-cut in, providing an awesome distraction. "The Apprenticeship only lasts a week, so don't worry too, too much about any upcoming work until next Wednesday."

'And just like that, no regrets.'

A/N: Don't judge me, it's just a test chappie to see if this idea sinks or swims.
