Artemis sat on the front step of Fowl Manor. The wind ran its icy fingers through his hair and wrapped him in a cool embrace. He trembled from the cold but he didn't care. He heard light foot steps behind him and felt a body brush up against his as Holly Short sat down next to him. He felt her gaze upon him, sorrowful and concerned. He turned to face her.
"I guess this is goodbye..." She said quietly.

Artemis turned away. He gazed upon the land in front of him; eyes squinted to prevent the tears from flowing.
"Holly I..." he trailed off and shook his head slowly. Holly hesitantly brought her hand up to brush his cheek but instead rested it comfortingly on his shoulder. Artemis tried to swallow the lump in his throat.
"I'll miss you..." he whispered.

Holly bit her lip.
"You knew this would happen Artemis..." She said softly.
Artemis inhaled a shaky breath.
"I know but..." he groped, "Its just harder now... Why does it have to end like this?" He looked at her questioningly.
"It's not the end really... just a new beginning."

A tear escaped and rolled down his cheek. He turned away once more and attempted to wipe it away only to make way for new tears. He felt a warmth against his face and looked back to find Holly cupping his cheek. She looked at him sadly. Artemis reached up and touched the hand that rested on his face gingerly and then hesitantly reached for her other hand. Holly smiled briefly.

"I'll miss you too." She admitted and stroked his cheek with her left thumb. He closed his eyes and leaned into her hand.
"I'm sorry Artemis..." She said gently.
Holly freed her right hand from his grip and planted it on the other side of his face. She leaned in and kissed his lips softly. Artemis let out a surprised moan and then placed his right hand behind her neck and returned the kiss.

Holly snaked her hand through his silky black hair and behind his neck to pull him in closer but he broke away.
Holly looked at him in confusion and met his intense icy blue gaze.
"Will you do something for me Holly?"
"What is it Artemis?"
"Remember me..." He said simply, then stood and left.
