Phaser to Stun

Rating: T
Chakotay answers a very poignant question after the events of this "Repression." One shot. May continue.
Kathryn Janeway sat at her table in her quarters. She had been waiting for nearly thirty minutes for the time that was soon at hand. Several minutes later, her First Officer, entered slowly and cautiously, as if he feared her presence. For him, things had not been easy ever since he had planned to usurp her position. He wish this could be like any other night; they'd have dinner together, and they would get closer. But this would not. They had to talk.
"Chakotay," she began.
He sat down across from her.
"What I want to know is the real reason why you didn't set that phaser to kill. I would think that Teero programmed you to do so."
"He did, and I ignored him."
"You were able to fight his mind control?"
He looked deeply into her eyes and knew that he could not hide the truth from her, "I can't lie to you, Kathryn. That wasn't the reason."
"Then what was?"
"You."
She looked at him quizzically for a moment.
"I wanted…to make you my queen," he swallowed hard, readying to accept the repercussions.
"Chakotay…" she said as if she was not registering what she had heard.
"That's why I didn't kill you. Because I love you too much."
Kathryn Janeway said nothing.
"I'll go," Chakotay stood up, unsure if she would ever look at him the way she did before, "you need time to think." He was now completely at her mercy.
She nodded and dared not look at him when he left the room.
