The Magical World of Disney
The prince slowly approaches the golden casket, gazing at the young girl laying there. With a mighty shove, he pushes the crystal lid off, where it slides to the forest floor, a dull thud that echoes across the flower-filled meadow. He reaches out, picks up his beautiful love and kisses her tenderly, with which she opens her eyes with a gasp.
I love Disney movies. The way they can transform every legend, every story, every fairytale into an animation is amazing. A castle is a not just a castle, but a grand fortress that hides unspeakable power. I love that one object that always appears when the hero needs it the most. The weapons- and costumes- that are just true enough to scrape by as authentic.
I love the princesses, with their perfect hair and killer gowns. They are all (for the most part) stereotypical, but all the more so little girls cherish them, and strive to be them. I love the princesses that have their true love come to rescue them, and the ones that go out into the world to save their prince. I love that our generation loves Disney, but 8-year-olds now watch Twilight or something. Whenever you don't know what to watch, someone will always pull out Mulan or Aladdin. I love when a Disney song comes on, everyone sings all the words…in tune.
I love the prince that never says a word. He walks in, saves the day, and lives happily ever after. He's always perfect, usually handsome, and doesn't ask for directions. I love Shang in Mulan, who is tough on the outside, but loving on the inside. I love the prince in Cinderella because he doesn't say anything. I love Prince Eric because I just always have. The prince never gets as much credit as they deserve, which I always found sad. Meanwhile, the princess gets all the credit for lying there and looking pretty. I love the horses that princes ride. I love the sidekick that always suffers a near-death experience. I love that one song that the prince sings by himself.
I love that people all look the same. The crowds of kids that you are sure are related-because their faces are practically identical- but in reality their not. I love the townspeople that are wear the same uniform. I love that one person who has red hair. I love the way Disney makes the prince and princess stand out in beauty, while everyone else is average. I love the motherly figures that are plump and happy. I laugh when I see the one woman who is always in the opening scene.
I love the different animals - Sebastian the crab, Max the horse, Mushu the dragon. Without an animal character, the movie would no have humor…and no cuteness factor. I love the way the animal friend is the princess' best friend. If the producers of Disney ever decide to not have a cute, fluffy, sidekick that does more work then the actually hero, I think 90's children would revolt.
I love the magnificent theme parks that Disney has around the world. I have never met a kid who wouldn't like a trip to Disneyland. I love the rides, from roaring roller coasters, to Dumbo bumper cars. I remember being naïve, thinking that the teenagers dressed in character costumes were actually the real hero's princesses. I love bringing a little, spiral notebook to gather autographs from idols like Pluto and the Mad Hatter. A trip just wouldn't be complete without a visit to the gift shop, where a hundred, plush stuffed animals are waiting to be bought by squealing children.
